Agreed. Whilst the hardware can wait, they need to get the OS out there asap and have it working great for when they do launch their own device.
Iām assuming if that is the case then it will get the complete Xbox library which I think will be great and is basically what many want. It certainly if it is the Xbox OS will be a welcome competitor to the steam OS and maybe the needed boost for Xbox.
Steam Deck has barely sold 4 million, itās not some huge powerhouse right now.
Most gamers are under the impression Steam Deck is popular. It is not. In no way is it popular. If anything Valve can expand itās handheld userbase with the microsoft brand.
True but Iād say this is more due to Valve not having the financial capability. I imagine it would cost billions to make, ship and sell not to mention the loses that would be incurred. I think Microsoft could easily sell over 4 million handhelds in a year, heck they do more than that with surface laptops which is in decline.
Valve makes insane amounts of money, the PC handheld market simply isnāt that big. The console handheld market is
It might be big. Valve doesnāt have the distribution, supply chain channels that a MS does nor do they have any relationships with retail nor have they ever done any advertising.
MS could, with any sort of push, do the Steamdeckās lifetime sales on itās debut weekend - Iām not being glib when I type that. Nintendo will likely 2 or 3x Steamdeckās lifetime sales in itās first weekend provided they have the supply.
Personally I think at one time MS and Gabe where somewhat enemies. Now that relationship has cooled. I think heād be open to expanding Valve with a partnership to his Redmond neighbor and former employer whom he helped build. I also think Gabe is getting to an age where he is thinking about legacy and passing on his company - something a partnership could help usher in.
It could be an exciting time for both companies in these next 5 years if they allow it.
I think this partnership makes a lot of sense and both would benefit, I also doubt that most Steam users care about a handheld but traditional console users and Switch users do and a good portion of those may be attracted to a next gen Xbox handheld that can play all next gen games, with Steam as an option in this hypothetical system it will likely bring a lot of new users to Steam.
Sounds great though I think Xbox will go in 2026 myself.
That would be a great way to get a head start over SONY have 3rd parties to lead development your system and also be the best console to play GTA 6 on LOL
I think Xbox will need to go according to AMDās roadmap, and assuming a 2-year generation on their end (RDNA5/UDNA) they shouldnāt be coming until 2027. It makes sense to time your hardware with significant iterations of the APU.
Yep. What I find hilarious is that all the ARM talk disappeared (for good reason, as I mentioned time and time again, and AMD only cemented my point this year).
I recently saw someone mentioned how after long period of time with Series S. Quick Resume is a real deal. I believe if the next Xbox can introduce at least two feature that is ālife-changingā as that, they can really win doubters.
i was on the 2026 train myself but i do think it will end up being 2027. I think the PS5 Pro getting FSR4 in 2026 will push the PS6 into 2028 (since it doesnt make much sense to me for PS5 Pro to get that āupgradeā 2026 and then release another new console in 2027), which leaves Xbox to 2027, which is good news if MS want to appeal to people outside of hardcore xbox fans, maybe get those people who usually buy the ānew shiny tech toyā without them just defaulting to the PS6 if it was released at the same time. I do think if the Nextbox console is released along with a handheld then Sonyās rumored non-cloud only handheld might come out in 2027 (a handheld that can play PS5 games is prob too much, but maybe one that can natively play PS4 games and stream PS5 games like the Portal?)
Pretty interesting these articles drop and they announced over 1000 titles with play anywhere then silent hill gets a new trailer with play anywhere. I was very against the direction Xbox was going but Iām kind of onboard now. Iām probably gonna get the asus handheld. Iām assuming the first version of the Xbox one wonāt have an oled so Iāll wait for that one. I just hope the specs on this asus xbox are good. Wondering if they are based on the current Rog or the upcoming Rog 2 series
I feel like if Microsoft can make a client that is user friendly without fail, keep building Play Anywhere and Game Pass, and match Steam sales then they have a good shot at significant growth in the PC space.
They have a lot of gaps to close, but they have the resources to pull it off. All they have to do is stay out of their own way.
If they are the first console maker to say āregular online multiplayer is now freeā it would be a big deal. They could still charge for their game sub, offer a few more bells and whistles to sweeten that pot and still get lots of subs. The infrastructure is there, F2P games donāt require an online sub and it is the (a) main argument on pc vs console.
It would do a lot to truly marry the two ways to play games and make other enthusiasts pay attention imho.
Will probably invest in this pc handheld, so long as its in a good quality price. I have some games on both Xbox and Steam so this is a no brainer.
But i will want to know a couple of things like battery life, will you be able to replace it in case anything happens, the quality of the graphics and how movement will remain steady.
Those are some of the big questions i would want an answer to before making any purchase.
The library really is the issue. This device seems to me to be one that Xbox could use to push the PC store into the limelight as to me the main issues with this PC stores is that they are lacking in games. Hopefully they are able to get developers onboard at GDC. I would like to see at least some of the more popular titles get the Play Anywhere treatment.
