Yeah, I think the demand surprised them a bit all over. Judging from my corner there have never been so much demand for an Xbox console as with the Series X here in Sweden. (Series S is not selling much and has been available to buy anytime since launch, Series X are as rare to find as PS5).
And I am not surprised the Series X is almost like a myth if the figure of 700K being sold last quarter is true, because that is not that many over 3 months.
Yeah that would be very, very thinly spread out globally hehe. The only positive is that it really solidifies the Series X as a premium piece of hardware, and people really want that here.
I think Series S will start its real momentum during and after Christmas
Right now everyone is after PS5/X but christmas will be where series s starts getting bought up by parents needing a console for their kids
Plus gamepass isnt even close to being widely adopted by that demographic yet, once more and more parents start seeing what gamepass offers and they can just buy a cheap console and have hundreds of games there ready to go for them, momentum can keep building through word of mouth
Same in the UK. I have a friend who has been looking to get one for almost a year and has not had any luck. They literally sell out in minutes.
Does Nintendo advertise games? I literally never see them other than a few hardware ads.
I am actually surprised Sony has even been able to produce as many PlayStations as they have. It is something I have been bringing up that for all the console shortages, these consoles are actually selling faster than the previous generation.
Also, has the number of subscribers for PS Plus decreased a little? If so, does this mean Sony should start panicking like I was hearing about Xbox ?
It does feel like a valid criticism of Xbox. In an environment that gives you an automatic sale for every console manufactured, why have you produced millions fewer units than your competition? This is of course a hypothetical question because the business answer should be âno excusesâ.
Maybe, but we do not know how much impact the upgrading of servers had on availability of Series Xs since a lot of these would probably be ânormalâ Series X silicon.
If the above is true, I would say not an insignificant amount since Xbox announced they had finished upgrading their servers.
Think the reality is that they both had sales expectations (MS more than Xbox One, Sony more than PS4) and ordered accordingly. Shortages have made it difficult to ramp production up any further, or have prevented them from meeting even their requested targets.
Itâ a mixture of everything really. For all we rip into the Xbox One, it actually had a solid first year on the market despite all the BS and the Series consoles are on course to actually beat it I believe, if supply can hold up.
Yeah I believe they are out performing the One
Iâve never personally accepted that reason. Logically Xbox should have had larger initial orders to account for Xcloud server blades. There is no scenario where both companies should have out prepared the other company. If anything Xbox shouldâve been planning for more than itâs competition because of Xcloud.
It is expensive to have stock sitting, companies order based on what they expect to be able to sell.
There is no way that Microsoft (coming off Xbox One) had the same sales expectations as Sony (coming off PS4).
How many Xcloud blades do you think are out there?
there are not millions of Series X missing because of xCloud blades in data centers.
Switch OLED â 61,169 Switch â 38,658 PS5 â 11,526 Switch Lite â 8,295 Xbox Series S â 3,815 PS5 Digital Edition â 2,754 PS4 â 462 New 2DS LL â 449 Xbox Series X â 74
Another week of Series S defeating PS5 Digital in Japan. Whatâs that, a full month now? Meanwhile, Series X is⌠embarrasingly low. Is MS just not sending Japan Xâs?
i think itâs what ever they can get out plus they are probably sending the shipments to the markets they are strong in like the U.S and the U.K.
It had been very dry here (Sweden) as well for Series X, I think they are very supply constrained atm. Maybe it is because they are focusing on specific markets. The demand is here though so itâs too bad.
Itâs not that easy. These things were planned and in place pre pandemic. Xbox will have forecasted how many they will sell and would have procured their production lines and parts accordingly. Sony will have done the same. Naturally Sony would have higher projections. Then Covid hits and itâs very competitive for silicon and production and itâs not like you sit there in a vacuum. Cost of making these things goes up and itâs not like Xbox is producing slow. This is I believe their fastest selling Xbox. They just didnât and couldnât anticipate the demand.
