Spot on. XBox PR is a issue that needs to be fixed
We also talk about porsche and ferrari at christmas, it does not mean we do not buy cheaper cars ā¦
I agree that Series S is not working well, but there are a combinaison of reasons, this is not as black and white as you suggest. Having multiple Ipad work wonders for Apple, but they push big marketing.
We also live in a crazy world where people think this is reasonable to buy a 500$ console for kids, I remember when I struggled to make buy a N64 for 100E when I was younger.
I live in Rhondda, not just one of the poorest parts of Wales, but one of the poorest and most deprived areas in the UK , but even in the Valleys , gamers are now used to consoles costing £300 to £400.
I saw in the 360 era , not many wanted the cut price Arcade 360 unit they wanted the full on experience of the 360 with the HD
For the Series S to really be effective IMO, it needs to come in below that magical price barrier of £200.
I love to see MS do a Series S promotion over September, with a PR tag line of a deal out of this world or a deal for the stars and have the Series S priced at Ā£199/$199 with a month sub of Game Pass . Iām sure it would sell a ton .
I know a few mates who are big PS fans and are looking at getting a Series S console just for Starfeild , but still on the fence . If the Series S came in at £199 that would make a diff IMO. A bit like Amazon cut the price of the discless One S by £50 and it sold like hotcakes
Yes, if it was a free console, it would sell a lot too.
I am not assuming that MS will not do a promotion, but do not consider this is free money, the S costs more than what people think it does because of uncompressible costs. If they lower the price, it will be a dumping decision, not because the S costs nothing to produce.
Where you are right is that gamers are entitled to game consoles, same as they are to very expensive phones. They can be starving of food and having no job, they still think they can play on a 500$ console.
Thatās actually amazing numbers for Xbox when you consider market share . Iām just shocked about pc is where the bulk of sales were made
Can we be serious ? Ā£ 199 is not free, but it breaks that 200 quid barrier and then becomes far more of a instant purchase buy. Iām sure a lot on here will have a friend or will know someone on the fence over getting Xbox to play Starfeild , but really want to play the game .
I say MS should look to capitalise on the hype for the game and just for a month or even a couple of weeks cut the price of the Series S below £200 with a month sub it Game Pass and watch sales sore .
When people get a taste of the Xbox and Game pass, I feel theyāre be more inclined to stay with Game Pass for the year and beyond.
I think it was for a week when Amazon UK cut the price of the discless One S by 50 quid and it sold like hotcakes. If MS did a stunt like that on the week Starfeild shipped, sales would be huge IMO .
I remember when PS2s and Gamecube I believe went down to 100-150$ here in Canada. I doubt Series S will ever reach that price, but I agree that itās the kind of system that needs to reach the 200$ treshold with the 1TB maybe being that 250$ system, and then add an extra 50$ price cut on black friday and see your entire yearly stock of Series S fly off the shelves.
Below 200$ no one would even resist. Or, they could bundle it with the latest Call of Duty, guaranteed success!
It is not because you decided that 200 pounds is the magical barrier that it should. 1/ You have no idea how much S costs and how it breaks even 2/ As you said, your friends are more than likely to buy a console at 500$ , so price is not the problem, desirability is and no price drop will help 3/ dumping the price of S around Starfield could help a little, good luck to put it back at 300 after that
Itās not about breaking even , itās about getting a massive sales boost on the back of Starfeild. MS used to do a sales specials with the Xbox One to try and counter the PS4 they should do the same with the Series S for a couple of weeks when Starfield lands .
Iām donāt want a silly suspension again and itās not being negative, itās just a reality;since the price cut of the PS5 in the UK, sales have jumped by 75% and it was hardly struggling for sales to begin with .
If you cut the price down the £199 for a week or 2, then those on the fence over SF and the Xbox IMO would bite and take the plunge for Xbox .
At this point, Iād say itās best to keep the prices as is, let Starfield launch and see how sales go. If it doesnāt move the needle much, drop the price around Black Friday.
You can not drop the price for a few weeks, it would be giving an adrenaline boost to a dead body, it can not last long.
I donāt think price is an issue either. The PS5 is desirable and sells at any price it seems.
Xbox needs to be a desirable platform and make sure there are Series Xās in good stock. The former takes a bit of time and they are well on their way with the games, Starfield f.e. The latter I donāt know what they are doing but thereās less availability here now than it has been for a long time.
Are those xbs numbers real? Because so that attach rate for XBS is fucking insane.

Reminder how much a CoD game can bring.
Elden Ring is still on the most played list on Xbox NA and I donāt think it ever left.
I say cash in on Starfield with the hype that will be around for that month. I have a few PS loving mates who are on the fence about Star and theyāre looking for all the excuses in the world not to bite. If MS cut the price of the Series S by Ā£50 theyāll bite IMO and if its anything like one of my other mates, they also then see the wonders of GamePass ; One of my mates joined the Darkside (SONY) when SEGA looked to drop the OG XBox and move to the PS2 far more. He never looked to go back to the Xbox, even in the 360 era. I tell him to call up to play HiFI Rush as itās so like a SEGA game of old (weāre both fans of the corp) and he plays it and loves it, then goes and buys a Series X and a month sub of Gamepass
Not only does he love the game, but he also does what most will do with Gamepass download and try all sorts of games ⦠I was even getting a text of how wonderful Quantum Break is, a game that when he played on my old Xbox he dismissed, but in the comfort in his own home and when he gave it time, the opinion changed.
That month sub is now turned into a year sub and Iāll doubt heāll ever leave Gamepass. For sure SONY is still his main console corp, but heās now also part of the MS Echo system too.
Yes, it will lose MS a lot of money (but only if they shift a ton of units) cut the price of the Series S for a couple of weeks for Starfield and sees sales sore IMO. Iām sure people would bite for Starfield and a Ā£199 console to play it on
Give them the bate and watch them bite
I think that will start to change with SF, Forza and hopefully Activision coming to Gamepass this year
I have a few mates on the fence, but for the 1st time in decades, they are talking or at least thinking of buying a Xbox. They might take a baby step with Series S, before moving up the Series X but at least theyāre considering a move.
Itās a massive move from saying I donāt need the XBox, SONY make the best games, thereās no reason to buy a XBox . Many of my friends are massive Skyrim fans and for them, Starfield is Skyrim in space and they really want to get lost in its world, but looking for any excuse not to buy an XBox.
It might be hard for some outside the UK to understand some of the mindset like that, but its like supporting a football team, you never support your rival. I knew someone who is a die-hard Spurs fan (Tottenham Hotspur) and refused to buy a Dreamcast because SEGA sponsored Arsenal
I donāt know what it is about the mindset, but for some reason when a system goes down to below Ā£200 it becomes more of a non-brainer and an instant purchase. I so wish MS would just cut the price of the Series S for a few weeks to make those not even have to think of the options and just buy the Series S for Starfield.
I noticed you can get a Series S here in Canada on Amazon for 320$, man thatās so cheap, i think I paid that much for a used one as my second Xbox Series when I deployed in 2021 and now itās my daughterās Xbox. Iām actually trying not to temps myself to get another one for the computer room as I sometimes like to play on my PC monitor but Iām just too lazy to move the Series X around so Iāll usually play locally if I can or on xCloud.
But I agree, at 200$ or less, this is impulse buy territory I think and because of the huge GPU power disparity, I think it really needs to hit that price for people to consider it more.
The Series X is my main system, but I also bought a Series S that I use solely for developer mode and emu. It was a Prime Day warehouse deal.
The Series S is awesome because itās so small itās easy to move it from room to room or take it away with me.
I have mates who are really thinking of getting an Xbox to play StarField and donāt get me wrong, the game will sell millions and shift millions of Xboxās with no price cut. Can you just imagine how many wouldnāt even think twice about getting a Series S if it was Ā£199/$199
I so wish MS would look to cut the price of the Series S temporarily, to take full advantage of Starfield hype.
Hell no. They should be making more and selling more series X for starfield. Ive spoken to many people who wabt to buy an xbox for starfield. None of them want an S.
Series s isnt going to do starfield jsutice unless youre playing on a 1080p TV.
Series X was always the mire desirable console.
Ms can outsell ps5 if they amde enough series x for the rest of the year. Not global but in NA
