The game will be entirely playable offline. Online Coop wil be optional.
Shame for no Switch 2. Sounds like an ideal game for the platform. Maybe in the future.
So it looks like they gave up on the live service. I guess that’s good. At least the game doesn’t have to worry about getting shutdown.
This game would kill on the Switch 2. Launching on the PS5 and not the Switch 2 is crazy to me.
Probably receive late or haven’t dev kit.
I will definitely be buying Towerborne for $30 when the full 1.0 version releases and start a new playthrough. Put in over 50 hours and maxed out my character. Didn’t even complete everything as I was waiting for the full version.
I can see a Switch 1/2 version later in the year. Towerborne is perfect for the hybrid console(s).
I also just realized that Towerborne is doing what Anthem should have at launch (and still should). They recognize that they just can’t survive as live service and pivoting to an offline model. The cosmetics monetization was also getting a lot of hate, so it’s great they got rid of it too. I do hope they do content updates and expansions (paid or unpaid) in the future, but this means there’s no worry the game gets shutdown and is gone forever. Really, Xbox is surprisingly good about this in general. I feel like that isn’t acknowledged. In a world where so many games like Anthem get delisted and shutdown without ever losing its always online status (so you can’t play it anymore even if you bought it), Xbox games like Redfall will at least get an offline mode and even refund failed dlc for people.
This. All evidence points to Nintendo being shoddy in getting kits out to devs. Either way, these moves are the correct ones, as all signs were pointing to this being a flop if it continued with the original plan.
