Review | A Plague Tale: Requiem

Obviously it is all personal opinion. I am glad you enjoyed the experience.

In the first third of the game I found the repeated travel here… then travel back to where you started aspect a bit wearing.

As the game went on it just seemed to be being stretched out for no particular purpose to me.

The walking through treacle aspects did not help as I would have preferred to run everywhere.

Having very short timescales to play through and review the game adds another level of pressure that possibly does not help.

Dont get me wrong I gave it a 7 Great rating as I enjoyed the game. I would have just preferred a more succinct version.

Not a fan of the way they ended it, so much death and people sacrificing themselves all for nothing… just feels pointless, also wonder what they are trying to hint with the cliffhanger that seems go take place in the modern world… another plague story but in the future…? I don’t know, they’re probably better off ending it here.

I interpreted that ending as a hint that the cycle never ends. Not nessesarily hinting at a sequel.

Hmmmnm… not really cool you quoted a spoiler so it’s not a spoiler any more.

I edited the post so it’s quoted part doesnt include spoiler stuff. That can’t unspoiler anyone who’s already seen it, but hopefully it’ll prevent spoiling it for others.

Appreciate the quick turnaround, mate!

Looks like a fine title. Too bad the first is no longer on gamepass.

The first was on GamePass for 32 months, from 2020-01-23 until 2022-09-15. If anyone had any interest in playing it, they would have by now.

Oh its 1000% my fault for not playing it. I actually had it installed and was planning on playing it and beating it and playing this one right after but it left before I put my plan in place.

I just downloaded it via gamepass on my PC. Resolution at 2560×1600, everything set to Ultra, DLSS set to balanced…

All I can say is WOW… Holy good fuck it is easy the best graphics I have ever seen in a computer game.

I’ll have a proper crack at it tomorrow.

Does it matter if I haven’t played the first game?

I only played maybe 15 minutes or so of the first and understood most of what was going on in this one, just finished it today.

Liked it enough to want to go through new game plus, though definitely a few things I’d change if I were in charge. Not super fond of a couple of the harder enemies, some running segments where the camera is aimed back and you can’t see forward, some movement at times, and would like a little more freedom in some areas. Still very good and especially impressive for this type of studio.

Yeah, I always meant to play it but somehow didn’t really get very far and now wishing I had it. So likely will buy at some point if I see it on sale.

Would you start with The Two Towers?

I mentioned this stuff in the review as not being great.

Yup. I had the same opinion about it, but I do think my overall score probably would be higher. But since it’s just opinions, we’re both right

I did run into a bug in the running sequence that is about 4 minutes 37 seconds into the review video. If you try to turn the corner where Amicia calls out to the older woman instead of running past and then back, it hung up for me until I was eaten.

I think that because we use a scoring policy that makes use of the full scale our scores can appear worse than they actually are.

An XboxEra 7 equates to GREAT which is a pretty ringing endorsement.

Lots of other sites think any game scored under 8 is shit which is somewhat ridiculous.

I went and read the rating scale again and still think I’d have given it a 7.5 or 8. But either way pretty close. Plus everyone is going to have personal differences with stuff. There’s all sorts of stuff that other people scores as perfects or nearly perfect that I won’t touch.

I cannot ever see me giving a game a Perfect rating as for me personally that is not really attainable.

I may prove myself wrong about that in the future but I doubt it.

Deathloop is my favourite fame this year and I would have rated it a 9 as I had a few technical issues during my playthrough.
