Microsoft literally, and verifiably, does have a better relationship with AMD and we’ve seen a myriad of custom hardware as a result over the last decade alone; in fact, Microsoft has these things they make called computers and they provide the world’s most used OS, so they have a pretty large base that requires a pretty tight-knit relationship with the chip manufacturers that far eclipse any need/capability of Sony or their user base. In fact, it’s that very point (that I’ve been right on again and again, recall XSX specs being inarguably better than PS5 despite a certain duck-like mod on another place banning me for arguing… in favor of reality.)
This is not to say that MS doesn’t have its own share of snake oil from time to time, or that they also haven’t made a myriad of mistakes (they have done their fair share of both, just stating reality when it comes to results). Finally, as AMD supplies chips for multiple partners, future Sony hardware will benefit from the architectural developments that arise from Xbox/AMD partners and vice versa, it’s literally how iterative hardware development works (but you never see the media parade around Xbox despite helping pioneer a bevy of the same advancements.)
I think the thing that makes it funniest is tthat Cerny has presided over the three most milqutoast, run of the mill, off shelf pieces of PlayStation hardware in the brands history. But is somehow heralded as some sort of hardware wizard. Clearly the guy smart, Im not going to claim otherwise, but good lord.
PS1-PS3 were far more interesting pieces of hardware. Warts and all.
In far more important/relevant bits; it sounds like Yotei is a blast for those of my friends enjoying it already (I’ll be picking it up later to run on my beastly PC). I hope it does well, if for no other reason than to have another notch against the incels and weirdos
Yep I wish it well - the first game I did enjoy the high production values and the interesting world, and I share the dislike of people hating games due to culture war shit.
I just felt let down by the end as it followed the typical Sony “your journey in this game is the cinematic story we’ve decided to tell - you are simply an audience member” whereas the fawning reviews plus the skill tree etc, plus them really heavily pushing the “if you do stealth or honourable duels it’ll impact your honour and your relationships” which was actually bullshit.
It annoyed me so much as the story was so contrived to get the ending they wanted, and I’d been carefully making sure I’d been acting with honour as they kept banging on about - only to be forced to do something completely out of character.
So I’ll be passing on this one and instead finishing up the AC Shadows DLC, as that game actually felt like it respected my decisions (and was another targeted by assholes) - and it’s why I’m so glad Xbox went heavily into RPGs rather than just cinematic games that I might as well wait for the inevitable TV series…
I like it a lot so far! It looks amazing, Atsu is a very appealing character and the open world is fun to explore. The historical setting is very vivid.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced that the PlayStation Partner Awards 2025 Japan Asia awards ceremony will be held on December 3rd. Does that mean that Xbox Studio games can be nominated?
Just beat the story in Ghost of Yotei. Awesome game! I have some open world collectibles to mop up and then this will probably be my very first Platinum. I definitely want to check out Tsushima next.
Streaming is the future doncha know. And the fact that this streaming is only available on a dedicated $200 device and not on your phone, PC, or existing console makes it better.
There is also no indication that they will have Cross-Progression, going off how there is absolutely no cross-progression with PS4 to PS5 and back to PS4. This is why I will not assume that Sony will have it for PS5 and PC.
The only cross-progression on PS4 and PS5 is from third party developers that have coded up their own systems.
