Playercounts, milestones and Game Pass performance (Starfield hits 15M, biggest Bethesda launch ever, Sea of Thieves tops 40M, Forza Horizon 5 41M, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre hits 4M, Minecraft Dungeons hits 25M)

6 million after 1 day 1 GP release is crazy but that number will go up a lot durong weekend

Phil also mentioned 1m concurrent players, it’s probably a new peak for them.

Halo 3, Halo Reach, FH5 and Halo Infinite have definitely hit 1M concurrent players.

Hmmm maybe, I just feel whenever a metric they mention themselves for the first time means probably they hit a milestone there. Could at least be a milestone for new Xbox, post GP.

I think they just wanted to add more sauce to it due to the inevitable headlines next week saying it’s the lowest selling Bethesda launch since like Morrowwind or some crap lol.

Bungie said Halo Reach beat H3 in concurrent players so that’s definitely 2 confirmed.

Math would say Infinite and FH5 have done it as well.

Yeah those games had crazy concurrent numbers but also they didn’t have so much competition to be honest, basically only CoD and Xbox was so dominant at the time

I feel like the 1M or more concurrent is a milestone that they would’ve loved to brag about, because it does feel like a huge one reserved for the likes of Fortnite, Apex, CSGO. But all we can have is conjecture because there’s no complete data or official statement.

I feel like due to BG3 hitting above 800k, people were going to compare it to that so I think they preferred going ahead and confirming they beat it.

Doubt that’s the reason why, if so that would be a pretty dumb reason lol.

It’s just good PR to have out there. Probably isn’t any deeper than that compared to what our theories are.

I think Starfield wasn’t gonna get that number on Steam even if it was only on Steam. People really need to realize how crazy and unique it is for BG3. Even Rockstar’s games didn’t reach that number.

Starfield beat that number though across all platforms. Had it just been on steam it’s a safe bet it would have done too.

I think BG3 benefited a lot from the universally positive reviews and impressions, really drew the FOMO out of people. People that gave 0 crap about the game or the genre were suddenly interested.

User reviews on Metacritic are scathing.

Soulless / no depth to the companions as well as you character. You feel no attachment to any of them. The graphics are not bad, but not breathtaking. Way too many loading screens and menus. NPC are dumb as hell and empty shells. Can’t take off and land, that… sad…

BG3 has also been on sale since forever due to early access. Still not worried about Starfield, game already had an incredible start and will have crazy legs.

You mean the reviews from console warriors are?

Ultimately people will see though garbage reviews like that due to word of mouth.

It took me a good month to buy into the Skyrim hype because I’m not into goblins and wizards but I succumbed because people were loving it. I could have read a review about it being janky controlling, low framerate, original-Xbox level of detail, with a completely uninteresting fantasy story, and empty NPCs compared to Halo… but the reason why everyone was having so much fun was everything else about the game.

I’m experienced enough to know that reviews like that will be mocked in a few years time, if not a few months.

This game will have legs that lasts years.

They are also pointless because they are nonstop fanboy/console warrior garbage

If you want a decent representation of reviews, Steam while not perfect does it best

You have to own the game and it shows how much playtime the person has and it’s either a like or a dislike, not some random idiot giving a game a zero because it’s not on his preferred piece of plastic

I doubt BG3 ever came into Phil’s or Bethesda’s minds when they were revealing any of their player numbers, it’s just basic/good PR for their game that just launched

People hear high player numbers, gives other people FOMO and gets them to jump in too

I find Steam to be less relevant as time goes by. 99% of games that launch on game pass like Exoprimal and Texas chainsaw hit 1 million players within a few days. Look at Steam and they have something like 9,000 CCU peaks.

Forza horizon 5s 33.3 million players has an 81,000 CCU peak. Its without meaning now.

Steam is very relevant. Infinitely more relevant than Gamepass in the grand scheme of things.

But as an XBOX customer, it’s not that relevant to us.

Halo 3 most likely possibly reach. FH5? I doubt it. That game just had insane progressive player counts. Infinite multiplayer must have had the 1M at launch
