Who knew that when Forza Horizon first released it would become one of the biggest series in gaming.
I wish all games had player counts.
that doesnt count…
Seriously, Xbox has so many franchises that are enjoyed by so many gamers despite the games media not covering them. Its like they’re out of touch with actual gamers.
Awesome.
IIRC, when they announced 18m back near release, the actual leaderboard was only at 16m so unless something has changed i’d guess the actual number is above 36, maybe even more
The series is a machine, even FH4 still does really well
Correct. Same when it hit 10m, the leader boards had just crossed 9m. It’s usually 10% out, so I would imagine, 37.4M is the real number.
This is the most positive game for Xbox!
Copied from kitchen sink thread:
According to the Fallout Instagram account Fallout 76 has passed 16 million players congrats to Bethesda for the achievement

16 million players for a subscription game is a lot.
I find hard to get Gears 5 sales, we are still stuck with an opening week en sales of 3M
What I get
" Phil Spencer on Gears 5: “Gears 5 sold well for us. It sold better than Gears 4.”"
We also know that the last reported sales number for the franchise is 41M in August 2019. This would put GOW4 and GOW5 at around 7 million each. And this is not “player count” through gamepass, likely higher.
It’s not a subscription game - it has a sub if you want the premium features, but otherwise it’s ‘free’.
I find it funny that Ryan McCaffrey wanted Xbox/Obsidian to cancel Grounded and put the team on Fallout when Grounded has reached the same if not higher numbers than Fallout 76.
I know, it is quite a mixed business system. Fact is you can pay every month for playing the games with some advantages.
It proves something about journalists. But what ?
That they don’t keep their biases in check.
BTW the mood at Obsidian must be amazing these days. The Outer Worlds sold through 5M copies + however many Game Pass players, Grounded hit 15M players last year, even Pillars of Eternity 2 - while the initial sales were disappointing, it eventually broke even and generated decent profit. No numbers on Pentiment but it was always presumed to be a niche game developed by a tiny team.
Obsidian has the option to go back to Fallout (and some employees said they’d want to), but their original IPs also sell gangbusters.
The total number of sales is always to be put into perspective of the investment.
Grouded - made by 15 people - at 15 million is the success of the year. No surprise they still work on it despite the game not being Gaas.
Pentiment was probably even on Day 1.
I like AAA but investing only on them make your release schedule a wasteland (see Sony). It also put a lot of pressure on the teams.
A million added in 50 something days.
Like this is probably the most played racing game of all time.
