Phil Spencer shares intent to honour all previous agreements and desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation

Correct. This is the new reality. Anyone who is still making suggestions based on how Xbox needs access to the PlayStation user base hasn’t caught up yet. I think it’s forgivable that people haven’t processed this new reality since it happened so fast however be wary of people still pushing that narrative next week and beyond. At some point it just becomes delusional to think Xbox NEEDS PlayStation and not the other way around.

They don’t. Even if the messaging from MS is super positive and pro gamer they won’t do a thing that doesn’t benefit them in the long run.

I think most players who plays cod most likely only play free games/sport games with it.

i don’t think the player would switch for xbox just because GP would be cheaper.

cod is a console seller (literally bundled with consoles). they would move to the console that has cod, like they did with the 360 lol.

Yeah, I still don’t get where is the gain for Xbox outside being cool.

It is not just price, COD scene will be seen on Xbox as the deal closes, all the esports, limited content, gamepass perks and so on.

They shift from 360 to PS4 once Sony grabbed marketing rights. They can easily go back to xbox, even if the games are not 100% exclusive, imo.

yeah i know i didn’t say it would be multiplatform, i said the appeal of GP to PS cod owner to switch to xbox is weak. if the game stayed as multiplatform title.

Sony still have marketing so it would be years before XSS got it’s own cod bundle and marketing.

Someone earlier today said that who knows, maybe Sony has a deal that CoD can’t even come to Game Pass, I mean so far we haven’t seen a single one I don’t think, right? Or that CoD has to come to Spartacus. Would be very understandable MS wanting to not honor that deal. The “intend” could be all about such kind of things.

Yup, I’m even seeing most of the reasonable PlayStation fans seem to be understanding this fact this time around. So it should be an easier go in the long run. Yes, there will always be those who won’t believe right up until it happens and even then won’t believe it.

But I’m surprised the majority of fans are saying/thinking warzone will be everywhere and new call of duty games will be gone after whatever agreements are in completed. Just from what I’ve seen and read around the web.

Well, we don’t know the terms of Sony deal, but yeah, it could take years (ppl are talking 2024). It will eventually expire tho. Meanwhile, I would think they certainly will find a way to use it in Xbox favor (putting the games on GP with perks for example) somehow, otherwise they would be stupid not take any adv of COD, imo.

yeah it’s not like new game is coming, this would have worked fine as advertisement for banjo game.

Well given there’s no Xbox deals for COD, the boss could have just said all future COD games will also be on PS. We all know the reason why…

You enjoyed Banjo on Switch? Why not play the next Banjo we just announced on Gamepass.

I’ll post this here too.

Grubb in his new video…

He seems to read a comment I think “Giving Game Pass to PS5 would be waving Sony the white flag.”

Grubb doesn’t see it that way. He has Amazon Prime on his Android phone, he has Apple Plus on a TV not made by Apple. You put these services next to each other and I don’t think it would be waving the white flag at all. It would just be making money off of MS games. It’s just business.

Sony might be too stubborn now to accept Game Pass, also he says that Sony saying they expect MS will abide to the obligations could point to them feeling confident, especially if that deal might still last a few years.

Also that CoD 2022 will be multiplatform most likely, 2023 probably no CoD, and once it returns it will be announced as only for Xbox and this should pressure Sony even more into accepting GP. All speculation of course.

Yup… Gamepass is cheap way to pay for games and Console is a cheap (and quality) way to play those games

You make fair points. I do think Activision is more about a company like Tencent and projecting what things might look like 10 years from now. I really don’t think Microsoft is even a little worried about Sony long term. I think they like the market where it is…with Sony and Nintendo keeping it crowded enough to keep the Amazons and Apples out without having the means to deliver any really crushing blows to them. They want to beat Sony but they don’t want to destroy them either. They don’t want to create a vacuum or weaken them to the point they sell or merge.

I was talking to Jordi from XboxEra who made an interesting point today. He mentioned maybe they go F2P on all mumtiplayer and make the campaign exclusive to Xbox. I’m not sure what that might do to the energy around the franchise but if it works financially, it’s that wiggle room that allows them to not upset the community, have that Trojan Horse to PlayStation gamers while still having an exclusive campaign for Xbox. I’m not 100% convinced they’d do this but it was an interesting suggestion. Either way, there could be some interesting middle ground that we’re not thinking about yet.

As for some of the other comments from Grubb…he’s one of my favorite dudes out in these gaming streets. I don’t disagree with a lot of his takes but I think if Sony allowed Game Pass on PlayStation, they’re waiving the white flag for a long time on subs. Because right now their value proposition perception would get damaged. I agree gamers will buy more than 1 sub if they see value. The value disparity would be too vast today. Sony needs more time.

Microsoft to Sony: look at me, I decide your revenue now

That’s just direct revenue. Who knows how many PS Plus subscribers they would lose and console sales. It’s certainly something that Sony will try to avoid.
