Classless move by Microsoft . The whole optics of this is just awful . They had Phil show up and take photos with the team . Then do clown stuff like this when they layoff employees . I hope this is a wake up call for many that corporations for the most part are classless and aren’t our friends .
Any employer isn’t your friend.
It’s not “clown stuff”, it’s business (which is heartless and cruel).
Sucks to be out of a job, I’m unemployed myself at the moment and I know how hard it is to not know until when the money will last, I hope all of them can get a job somewhere else. Fuck this system

Inxile dev. Tells you a lot. Don’t saint anyone. Even a person can have its shade of a company.
Saw this post on the other place, didn’t realise it was an Inxile dev, oof
but yeah, I remember talk a while back about Mike being very disliked within Blizzard
One thing business would do as well is lowkey hide the reason with whatever that sounds “peaceful.” Like “I retired because I’m old” or “I’m leaving for a new path in life,” or whatever that says it’s his/her decision. Don’t be surprised he is among them.
What was in the post? It’s been deleted.
I got it from the ABK investor reports.

Good call. I think it’s best if a journalist does the work of gatherings.
Yeah it has been known that Ybarra was a big a hole at ABK for a while, he’ll continue to be trash at some other company soon I’m sure, just like Matt Booty, Spencer and the rest of Xbox leadership seem to be.
Like what a trashy thing to say after this, just scummy, just be quiet dude, corpo talk is so trash.
Nothing scummy about Xbox leadership, wtf are you on about?
This is the layoff thread, you know what you are going to get lol. I just try and let the hyperbolic stuff pass by.
Layoffs are shitty but we all knew this was coming, corporations are ruthless and MS is no different.
Layoffs happening all over the place, ABK had done tons of overhiring like all companies during COVID, several departments underperforming and the company was probably way overstaffed for the content pipeline that they have so it needed restructuring.
While I have some doubts sometimes about MS decisions, honestly their current content pipeline for Xbox Game Studios is really good right now so it seems like they know what they’re doing in that regard. There is also a lot going on that we probably aren’t aware of. I doubt any of these decisions were taken lightly and I also doubt they just pick random people on an excel spreadsheet and call it a day. A lot of thought was probably put into this and there is most likely a plan behind all this.
We’ve had thousand that lost their jobs last year and thousands more this year before MS announced their own round of layoffs. Don’t know why it’s worse when MS does it than when Wpic Games or Sony does it. Riot just had a big one for a studio that has the most popular game in the world. Are people leaving LoL because of it?
By the way, not a negative reply to your post. I totally agree.
24 years well thats a very long time nd dang they did him dirty kinda bad move in my opinion
If the number of headcounts is growing year after year, then they’re simply getting rid what doesn’t work. I’ve been laid off and I know the terrible consequences it has on our lives at every level. But it’s impossible to argue that teams must keep the redundant and underperforming roles around at all cost.
Also, let’s not turn a blind eye on our own hypocrisy: how many of us here bought games like Crash Team Rumble or As Dusk Falls because they’re underperforming and because the individuals who made them need our financial support? How many Xbox fans haven’t instantly turned their back on Arkane Austin when they released Redfall half-baked (I love that game BTW); and when the devs were being ridiculed and harassed on social networks, how many of us stood up for them? Not many. I’ve seen some of the most dedicated Xbox fans saying they deserved the backlash. Well? Understand that we can’t lash out games online and secure the jobs of those who make them at the same time. We can’t always spread fear and rumors and ignore the consequences. Hey! IGN, Gamespot? Jeff? wasn’t it a LOT of fun to trash games like Redfall, Crash Team Rumble, and encourage gamers to follow your examples your podcasts and twitter accounts? Your lack of integrity goes to 11 here.
I agree with this… only to a certain extent.
It’s not my job as a consumer to financially support developers. I’m here to look out for myself, i.e. I’m not about to throw money at products because I believe the devs deserve to keep their job.
Crash 4 for example bombed, according to reports. That’s not the consumer’s fault, i.e. that’s the fault of the people who made the game (at every level). Why? Because it was a product the market wasn’t really interested in at that time.
I remember a similar conversation regarding Days Gone, i.e. one of its devs literally lambasted players for not buying the game full price day one & supporting the studio. I mean come on… i.e. these games aren’t cheap. If people are now being literally guilted into throwing money at products made by mega corporations, where’s the world going?
We all sort of glossed over this detail earlier but was it ever actually reported it bombed? Other than the first month figures I don’t think there’s ever been any real information about how it performed. Most of what I’ve seen on the subject seems like speculation in the absense of actual information.
