I truly pray for everyone impacted by being let go and hope they find employment quickly.

The suits have always been, and will always be in charge

But gaming is such a different market that I’m not sure Microsoft can be the kings of software services without a competitive market share in hardware, which they currently do not have, the answer of course would be going third party but if Sony and Nintendo don’t allow Game Pass on their consoles that likely doesn’t make sense, Microsoft’s best scenario here is cloud gaming taking off in the mainstream in the next 5-10 years.

I think he’s referring to MS. This new Xbox/Microsoft Gaming has been taken over by those who don’t report to Phil directly.

And Jesse’s point is that those people have always been the ones calling the shots.

Phil is a suit, he’s just better at talking to us than most.

Y’know, to address the lay offs directly, I think a lot of our pie in the sky game hopes (especially mine) are most definitely not going to happen now. I doubt Toys for Bob are going to make a Banjo game anytime soon…

You guys aren’t getting the game from both toys for Bob or good portion of developers for a good while. This doesn’t affect anything. This may think things longer but doesn’t affect nothing, especially if the project was not even greenlit until. Maybe what now? Jesus Christ

You seem to be taking peoples trepidations (which are not without reason) quite personally. Not liking today’s news is perfectly resonable.

This is some nasty work. Even though ABK’s headcount is still huge it’s gotta feel a little like being sold snake oil for those segments that have been affected. I mean they did a damn rock star world tour 3 months ago and undoubtedly co-mingled with a few of these folks all while having big grins on their faces.

If you don’t like the news today, I understand that. But stop acting like this is truly going to affect the projects in the long run. Again, you were not getting games from the studios for a good while. It isn’t matter the layouts affecting them or not thinking with feelings instead of the grand scheme of things, this was going to be the inevitable and unfortunately it’s going to get bad for you. It’s good

Terrible. I am extremely disappointed. Sad way to start the year.

This amount of workforce cutting means that TfB will be a forever support studio.

Yeah that celebration a few months back as well as Blizzcon just looks horrible to look back on

I’m only going to leave one final point. Things are going to look worse until they look better. However of that scene goes I might have busted it but what happening now it’s not going truly affect the future unless the whole studios are gone. Sucks right now, but you never know what the future entails. These studios have a brighter future under Xbox then under old Activision unfortunate reality is the 1900 that let go. Today is a fraction of what have been. Let go if Bobby was still in power?

Yep sums up my thoughts, just feels gross.

The suits have fully taken over unfortunately, like I know they were always the in charge but they are more hands on now. Sad to see talented people being fired/laid off. One thing that is consistent with Microsoft is they jump the gun too fast on everything, then ends up landing wrong, then proceed to blow everything up. I know there are gonna more layoffs due to the rising cost of game development but Microsoft is always been a company that has no patience and they are not learning from their past failures. Oh well, that’s capitalism for you, I just hope those that are affected lands on their feet.

IMO the Activision deal was a mistake. After spending 70 billion dollars, the high ups at Microsoft will want results in the gaming department ASAP and this will change Xbox whole philosophy very quickly.

If there’s one thing I can see based on Jez and Jeff’s reaction, layoff is such an emotional trip and I don’t blame them. I can also understand if they don’t want to hear the analytic side in which I have been seeing on my end because while it is sad yet true, you don’t want to hear it because again, this hits home too strong.

I dont know how the fuck are they supposed to launch a COD per year AND support a switch version when key talent has been left go.

I honestly lost all confidence left in the brand. I may play only on PC but to those outside the xbox ecosystem its really hard to see the brand surviving as it is with recent news.
