MSFS head Jorg Neumann speaks to FSElite about SimUpdate 4 and the Playstation launch. A few interesting tidbits came out from this interview:
- It was Sony who approached Microsoft about putting MSFS on Playstation;
- Hardware makers asked Neumann if the venture into Playstation is long term (it is);
- The MSFS team are seriously looking at the curated marketplace on PS5 (currently only Microsoft can publish in the PS5 martketplace);
- A workable PSVR 2 experience is already being trialled;
- Most people think that for the most part MSFS has only been on PC (it has been on 10 other platforms); and
- The MSFS team are looking forward to 2026, as now they can work on enhancing the simulation, and not just fixing it.
(I still think XboxEra should interview Neumann.)
Digital Foundryâs analysis of the PS5 edition as compared to Series X.
The main takeaway is that the major feature missing from the PS5 edition is the ability to download items to local storage, which is available on the Series X.
The minor takeaway is that, for all consoles, FPS is hit hard in built up areas (30 to sub 30 FPS), such as cities, but improves in less detailed locations (up to 40 FPS). In addition the frame rate on the PSPro is about a bit less than the Series X, but this can be explained away by the PSPro pushing out 1880p, while the Series X 1440p.
Otherwise, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a great addition to the Playstation 5 lineup.
And now you can go fishing.
So this is why the Xbox brand is dying. They are putting their IP they own on other competitorâs platforms.
Think of all the IP Microsoft owns. Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard, Zenimax Bethesda, Mincraft, think of all the IP Microsoft now owns.
If Microsoft would be ruthless and make their IP exclusive to Xbox and after 4 years it goes to PC. They would eventually defeat Sony and own the gaming market.
From what I understand if Microsoft made COD exclusive to Xbox they would get sue by the FTC for antitrust, but maybe they wouldnât.
Since Microsoft owns COD they should make COD exclusive to Xbox and then 3 years later it does to PC. For all the other IP they now own, it should be exclusive to Xbox for 4 years and then it goes to PC.
But just 2 platforms, Xbox and PC.
If Microsoft did this theyâd easily defeat Sony and would own the gaming market.
I mean would Microsoft get sued for making COD exclusive? And even if they got sued would they actually lose the lawsuit?
Ok then, keep COD multiplatform but make everything else exclusive to Xbox and then after 4 years, it goes over to PC. I mean seriously it should be 4 years cause Iâve seen a PC user say âIf Playstation is gonna release their first party games on PC then Iâll sell my PS5 and just game on PC only from now on.â Ok but would he be willing to wait 4 years? I mean seriously, release it on Xbox and then 4 years later release it on PC, I donât think too many would be willing to wait 4 years to play the next Halo or the next Doom or the next Elder Scrolls or the next Gears of War or the next Starcraft or the next⌠But after 4 years it would finally release on PC and then they could take it and play it on max PC settings and 500fps to their heartâs content.
I mean why do you think Playstation is King? Itâs cause they have awesome fantastic games you can only play on Playstation.
Well Microsoft now owns much of the greatest IP in the industry and so itâs to make it exclusive and this would save the Xbox brand. Hell Xbox would be King if they did this.
I mean do you guys realize Microsoft now owns the Starcraft and Warcraft IP? They could make a third or first person game set in the Starcrat universe. They could make a third person open world game set in the Warcraft universe. And then it could be Xbox exclusive, so why arenât they doing this? Donât they want to win?
Microsoft is worth $3.61 trillion. Sony is worth $151 billion. Microsoft is worth about 23.8 times as much as Sony. And yet Xbox is losing to Playstation. Go figure.
Microsoft values selling a gaming subscription which is gamepass, selling games, cloud and PC than selling games exclusively. They are thinking beyond PlayStation and Nintendo. They own Windows and are a Cloud provider
Youâre roughly 3 years too late, theyâre never going back to exclusivity in a stagnating market (consoles)
They could literally own the console market if they made all the IP they own exclusive to Xbox!
Cloud gaming is always gonna have issues with latency.
Xbox could easily dominate the gaming market if they made all the IP they own exclusive to Xbox.
Again, youâre way too late with this thinking. Companies, outside of the Unicorn that is Nintendo, are moving away from platform exclusivity. Even Nintendo needs âmoreâ and have shifted focus to theme parks and movies.
Thank you Jesse!! Game development cost too much money to make and game devs make 6 figure salaries.
So Playstation is going to completely abandon exclusivity now that they basically own the console gaming market? In fact thereâs been talk lately that Sony is going to pull back on putting their first party titles on PC because it causes people to NOT buy Playstations anymore.
With the IP Microsoft owns now they could easily dominate Sony if they were to simply make their IP exclusive to Xbox and then after 4 years, it goes over to PC, but it has to be on Xbox for 4 years first.
Microsoft owns the Starcraft and Warcraft IP. They should make a third or first person game set in the Starcraft universe. They should make a third person open world game set in the Warcraft universe. Then make it Xbox exclusive. People would be trading in their Playstations to get an Xbox.
Xbox could dethrone Playstation so easily.
Donât you people see?
This is the type of post youâd see in 2008. We do see, you do not.
What are you doing to this thread, itâs supposed to be for Flight Simulator 2024! /grumpyoldmanrant
