I wouldn’t say that. This isn’t even as bad as the price hike to 70 dollars. It just seems bad because its Microsoft so you have all the concern trolling and sky is falling. The change doesn’t effect nearly enough people for this to be an issue once the news cycle moves on.

Want to get people on board XGPU? Make them feel smart for taking advantage and fronting $181 up front. Announce Gold is being sunset in March, All Xbox Live Gold months up to three years will be converted to XGPU and watch the money roll in from people who might not even buy the console but just wants those three years there “To make sure”. If you’re going to imatate a company known for it’s spectacularly dumb business decisions. Imatate Nintendo because somehow they managed to get millions of people to pony up $60 for the most basic port collection of 3D Mario games because it’s “Time Limited”. Nintendo is dumb decision making that somehow manages to be profitable.
But no, they had to make the most insanely idiotic choice by forcing people to eat a higher price for Gold instead of “We’ll move you up to XGPU gradually”. God what a SHITSHOW.
Anyone who is thinking its all part of some 4D Chess move or “BuT SoNY iS WOrsE FoR $70 GaMEs” seriously needs to get their head checked. This is spectacular, colossal levels of fuck up that is so bad they stopped posting on their social media accounts because they know they would get hammered.
They are Mattricking and Mattricking hard and we should demand better.

It does annoy me a bit because it does feel like a lot of people are always waiting for Xbox to make a mistake and the reaction is much greater.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not good, but I remember people saying XSX/S would dead at launch and they are repeating Xbox one with the weak launch line up.
I really do feel people just have a boner for Xbox to fail.
This is still a shitty shitshow, but I don’t like how so many people seem happy about it.

Yep they hate competition to their precious sony i truly feel people think only Japanese companies are allowed to make consoles i know that sounds racist but it wouldn’t surprise if some are like that because of nolstgia towards Nintendo and Sony i was a hardcore Nintendo fanboy till i got my own 360 in 09 and been a hardcore Xbox fan as well since then halo and friends and family is the reason I’m on Xbox to this day

I do trust that Microsoft had some reason behind this choice. Microsoft doesn’t need to bleed their customers dry. If it was because they are doubling down on and pushing people into Game Pass that just shows me how serious they are about the service and we’re likely to get a better one as a result.
I’m curious, how old are you? It could be a generational thing.
People buying a console for one game only was a thing since the 16-bit era, there the phrase “casual gaming” referred to people who had their console and bought yearly installments of one sports game and played that to death.
Here’s the thing, MS is trying to grow their marketshare. They need millions of new customers (whether brand new or 360 owners that migrated to the PS4) to buy an Xbox and get into the ecosystem. This will affect every single new customer.
They’re going to look at 2 machines and see that one online service is double the price of the other. Same 3rd party games, similar visual fidelity, but double the price for online. The decision is easy.
If they play FTP titles, the decision is easier. There’s no real reason to consider the Xbox. PC or PS.
The Xbox has priced itself out of the conversation for potential new customers.

This is one of those times that im extremely happy to be a single player console gamer with no interest whatsoever in playing co-op/multi-player.
$120 a year for Xbox Live Gold is way too much. Especially considering it’s free for PC gamers. It is just an absolutely terrible decision by MS/Xbox management to raise the price of Gold to subsidize the cost of Game Pass. Sorry but this is inexcusable. MS/XB just need to charge more for Game Pass as that is where the over head is coming from not XBL Gold. Ridiculous. I thought all the terrible decision making was gone with Phil and Nadella at the helm but apparently not…
I apologize about the off topic rant. I still think MS’s best purchase would be Capcom as they make games that are popular in the West as well as Japan.

Yea, looking back at it you’re right. They seem to be mostly shielded from these type of things. People took notice, shrugged their shoulders and kept it moving. The games media play a big role in this I think.
