Don’t read too deep into it. It’s not like Todd was released or how Halo had their own episode of director departure. If anything, the latter was probably setting up for this moment.
Amazed how other tech are having others to hold their beer on the count number.
I agree plus when most corps merge they also look to cut staff at the HR and PR dept’s. I’m sick of the anti MS hate that’s going at the mo.
What’s worse is that Amazon and Google are doing the same with even higher count. But they won’t care because Microsoft has Xbox and Xbox must fall down. The narrative writes itself and sadly, even on our side either falls for it or decide to join in with their own (hot) take.
All the big tech firms will be laying off staff, thanks to the Covid dividend. What I hate is people saying Starfield is doomed or delayed and that sort of crap
I’ve only seen the layoffs affect zenimax not bgs.
I think the community identifying and reposting laid off people’s comments makes people feel closer to it. I haven’t seen anyone posting twitter posts of laid off Amazon or Meta employees. Until you put a face to the numbers they are just numbers.
Yes, but at least they post it about the person themselves. When it comes to news itself about layoff, people ensue narrative like “Starfield is coming in hot,” or “Halo is dead,” or even “Xbox is giving up on gaming.” Hell, those who actually came to the person themselves are the few that actually cared about the news instead of the product itself.
Where have you seen this? I’d really like to see it.

First all tech companies outbid each other with hiring ten thousands of engineers during the last couple years, now they outbid each other with layoffs. This is beyond stupid.
good read
Ah yes. And so far no tweets from BGS employees? That’s good then, for them and the project(s).
I wouldnt expect any of the layoffs to affect projects in any meaningful way, unless it’s a specific strategic move (like 343)
I find it baffling that a lot of people are somehow shocked at the idea that Ms is practically taking halo away from 343. How should a company proceed after sinking half a billion dollars in a game and taking practically nothing in return?
Anyway, if you don’t like halo, this news shouldn’t bother you, if you do, this is the greatest news anyone could give you today. Halo was, for lack of a better word, dead in the hands of 343, anyone that doesn’t realize that hasn’t played the game / doesn’t understand how games as a service work and what needs to be done for them to stay relevant, keep a decent player count and make profit.
Can’t wait to see who gets the next project. The dream for me is a sledgehammer halo game.
I hope we get a statement from the leaders at 343 and MS. They can’t keep the fans in the dark about their plans and the state of the franchise after what happened yesterday. Especially since Staten was the public face on social medias and he’s gone.
New to Xbox?
I think it’s not a necessity since from what I understand, no plans for the near future are changing since no plans included 343 anyway, it was all outsourced and will continue to be outsourced.
I think ZENIMAX is the name of the entire organization. Bethesda is just one of the main studios as I believe the acquisition called them ZENIMAX.
I don’t think they use that name anymore; just Bethesda now.
