Jez Corden: 'Wait, Xbox Cloud Gaming is... Amazing now ?!' (Windows Central Gaming)

My one issue with cloud gaming is my internet not being good enough outside of a wired connection.

At 4:00, he tests it in suboptimal conditons. You should be please of the results. Only a few games have the upgrade right now though.

Could be my imagination but I play a lot of FF14 on xCloud and I feel like the quality and reliability have improved over the last few weeks.

I saw, but while I still need to check agaim, the last time I tried it outside of a wired connection it was just bad.

Wired connection though, bullet heavens(Hades too) work pretty well. Last time I played Yakuza 4 through it, the game ran really good(before current update) when it wasn’t busy. Was a slide show when it was.

I tried it with Cyberpunk and Harry Potter, and it is much improved. The sooner they give us the SX versions of games, the better, as the S versions can be pretty blurry.

My only problem with the cloud is the long queues, maybe is something specific in Brazil because we have less servers.

Everytime i want to play I have to wait 30 minutes to 1 hour and i have game pass Ultimate.

If Microsoft want people to use more, they have to fix this.

They are. Slowly. I used to get lag in seconds in Poland (countryside; friend in capital had much better experience), but it’s OK now. It’s possible that Series production capacity goes mainly into servers right now, hence why Series stock in many countries outside of US comes and goes.

Its pretty much instant for me (US). Just a few seconds.

It has to be hard managing the cloud streaming business. They want people subbing for it but not so many that it exceeds their capacity.

GTA vi would be a great opportunity to push cloud. So many people still on last gen. But can they handle a million more people on it in one day. I’ve read comments that queues are still an issue.

indeed, it almost seems like if they solved this, they could get more players than consoles.

Tried out The Witcher 3 on wifi and it looked good and felt not bad to play, could still used some improvement on the feel of the game but it was a pretty good experience overall.

Checked it out on console and I could probably do any single player game that isn’t super fast paced. Multiplayer shooter still aren’t quite there with latency though. I want to be able to play games like Halo Infinite casually, and I guess I could (it’s fine), but boy would I be screwing my team over.

Yeah, MP games are doable but it’s difficult to be competitive.

From my experience, games with old-school QTE or button mashing are the hardest to play on Cloud. Expedition 33 combats are almost impossible to play.

I finished Star Wars Outlaws DLC recently, only on Cloud, because I didn’t want to install it just for a few gaming sessions. It was close to perfect, although a bit fuzzy, of course, because of the low resolution.

Yeah and my console for whatever reason (on ethernet) has insane download speeds, but terrible upload speeds. I’ve done all the troubleshooting, tried a different ethernet cord and a different router, and tried it on just wireless (it had slightly better upload speeds but much worse download). Meanwhile my Legion Go gets incredible upload and download with the same router and even before the update really good cloud gaming sessions when combined with better XCloud.

That’s to say, I’m surprised at how good streaming was just on my console in spite of all this. Usually latency and input lag is what kills my session, but it felt pretty fine. I’m locked into Ultimate anyway so I should try and make use of it more. Not the worse way to save storage space.

It’s an interesting vie. Series X consoles especially have been having stock problems even after COVID calmed and supply chains improved. It’s a question of what to prioritize and choosing one comes at the cost of the other. Hopefully it all pays off, but this generation has certainly felt like a long lameduck turnover one (like a transitionary one). Not really bad (preparing for the future), but it is the bet they’re making so hopefully they can reach those audiences with cloud.

What I also kinda find interesting though, is if all this infrastructure is built on Series architecture, how long will cloud gaming STILL be series architecture after next Gen? In part it’s one way people can feel future proofed in their console purchase. I don’t think Xbox will be in any rush to drop series support if that’s what their cloud infrastructure is built on.

My main xbox is having some power supply issues so I’ve been playing through the cloud on my steamdeck recently - as someone who had mostly terrible Internet up until recently it’s genuinely surprising to see how well it performs. It’s not perfect - but I finished up Pacific Drive last night (great game btw) and played a bit of Fortnite as well without too many problems. Think I’ll be starting on Outer Worlds 2 tonight.
