Halo |OT2| Forging Ahead

I clicked Halo to get the update, it seemed to get stuck so I cancelled the update but in doing so it deleted the whole thing so now I need to download the entire thing again

It’s a bummer but that’s the price we pay for all of these free updates. I don’t mind paying for it considering they’ve done a ton of hard work over the past year.

I’m neither angry or disappointed that the Mark V armour because of when it’s being released. Had this been done at launch, up until even a year ago, I would be critical because of the lack of customization options at that time.

But now it’s so incredibly varied and generous that this seems more than fine.

I’ll be honest I am a bit disappointed about that AI budget being as small as it appears in that clip.

The way I expect things to work is that an enemy that is slain will free up its budget and another one can be respawned. So certainly for single player experiences this is more than enough. This also seems enough for two to four players as well.

Once you get to 4+ players (which I’m not even sure how feasible it is to have a full lobby of, say, 24 people for this) enemies will seem pretty thin especially if such skirmishes are spread out on a map instead of localized to one area.

Even then I think things can be designed in such a manner that even if you have 24 players versus this number of AI (which I want to be clear is an incredible feat if that can be accomplished) you could make the enemies or some core enemies far stronger with more health surrounded by respawning weaker enemies.

I want to play with it so badly but I’m going to be busy in the next few days. I’m a free time I do have I will be playing rather than making a test map.

Which reminds me I didn’t figure out whether or not you’re able to apply modes to maps because I made a rally map and I coded a mode with a checkpoint system but I can never figure out how to properly deploy it all so people could play it.

32 enemies alive at one time, is, especially on Heroic or Legendary, enough for 4 players, easily. Especially if the maps are designed well. That’s a big campaign skirmish, and can be engineered to bring in new enemies speedily after others die. I’d assume with sensible design you could make it a challenge for more than 4. It depends on the variables, and there are so so so many variables to manipulate.

Love how windows store Halo Infinite tries to ā€œupdateā€ 110GB…even though I don’t have campaign or hd texture installed. Think it’s finally time for me to uninstall from here and just download in Steam.

Steam has over 17,000 players. Take note, every publisher who wants to go live service. If you want to succeed and stay success, don’t drop your game support.

In that example posted on Twitter I thought that was around 16-20 but if it’s 32 I think it could work well for even 8 players.

What I’m hoping for are experiences different from firefight, where players have to perform objectives, possibly hit certain objectives within a certain time window, doing separate objectives at the same time, working together to beat the level. Making use of vehicles to go to different objectives as quick as possible and so on. Something that makes firefight look like a caged experience.

32 can make that happen.

Was hoping I could play around with Forge when I got to the hotel from work but my Xbox didn’t download the update  only get 8-15mbps from the slow wifi lol so hopefully I can play around with it tomorrow. Sounds like an awesome update!

I have the HD texture pack but not the campaign, the update just redownloaded the entirety of 55GB, completely crazy lol. I had the game on Steam but Steam Input was messing around with the Xbox controller driver so I just uninstalled Steam. The joys of being a PC gamer lol.

The new maps are sublime. I hope BTB gets some love with the next big update.

It’s too early to tell. He’s certainly done good work here but much of this was already planned and in production. I think the true test will come with the next Halo game and it had better be as smooth as infinite cos if it is on unreal and doesn’t play as good or with the framerate you can be sure the community will be uproar.

Yeah especially the unreal switch as it at least is starting to appear the investment in fixing the engine is starting to pay off.
