Neither should have early access. Period. It better be only for previews, reviews, and streamers maybe.
I bought the xbox series X halo edition AND the halo infinite collectors steelbook edition⌠hope the steelbook edition come with this âearly bundleâ version
I hope there is no âearly bundleâ that anyone can pay for. That would just stink, a story component AND competitive multiplayer shouldnât have early access to the general public. Maybe as said for pre/reviews.
Idk. Ask the dev I quoted not me.
To be honest I hate âearly accessâ. Especially when itâs tied to a upgraded version of the game.
Iâm already a game pass ultimate subscriber. If the multiplayer has early access for gamepass subscribers than great I could be all for that. But if they are trying to make people like us who already pay 180$ bucks a year to them fork over some more to play the game a few days earlier I just donât like it. I think giving it to gamepass users 4-7 days early could be smart marketing for gamepass and allow them to ease into the release. Idk we will see what happens, just over a month to go⌠so close now.
Then dont pay for it just like how Im not doing it for Forza and didnt do if for Gears
Yep agree - we donât know its a thing - was just speculating.
Itâs ultimately a non-issue with FH5. But with Halo and now that you mentioned it, Gears, it has implications on the integrity of the competitive ladder AND the story being experienced before by those who pay more. Itâs not a clean way of doing things and I hope to hold Xbox to higher standards when it comes to this, as these things also target the gullible with uncontrollable spending habits, even if we overlook the possibility of disjointing the playerbase to some extents. Yes, I watch Jim Sterling and I agree with him. Make your money other ways please, MS.
I donât get this. You are talking like GPU isnât an absolutely immense deal. Like âwow MS I already pay you $180 for nothingâ. No you donât you play them that money for essentially a lifetimeâs supply of free games. And good games. I understand the complaint MORE when you are charging ÂŁ70 for a new game AND then another ÂŁ20 on top for the early access version. because thatâs your ÂŁ180 a year gone with two games. But in this instance I think youâre saying the service they provide which is almost universally described as âinsane valueâ isnât good enough IF they offer a paid early access route for games. I fundamentally disagree with that.
Iâm not paying for FH5 EA because I can wait. Its not like the game is an unknown. I probably would pay it for Halo but thatâs how it goes. Its my choice. It doesnât make me in any way unhappy at subbing to GPU.
not at all comparable. No one playing FH5 on 5th November will go and spoil âyoooo yall gotta try this new 2020 Supra, Nov 9th folks missing outâ lmao, Halo is different, it has a story campaign. I really hope MS doesnât do early access for campaign, that would fucking suck.
Also didnât Ultimate users get Gears 5 a few days earlier than its official release too?
I pretty much agree with this. I donât think itâs fair to ask your users to spend 40-60 extra bucks to play a game 5 days early. I think it takes advantage of your most loyal fans IMO. Forzaâs ultimates come with huge dlc so I can understand that a bit, kind of like extra incentives.
So if halos comes with huge dlcâs that would otherwise be paid I can live with it. Or if itâs just for gamepass users to play multiplayer thatâs fine. But if it costs an extra 40$ just for early access and some âexclusive cosmeticsâ, than I donât like it.
This is all speculation we will see what happens.
Is there anything 343i can do to make money off the game people would be OK with?
Weâve had the outrage that they want to make money off some cosmetic elements that were previously included in the price ⌠in a MP suite they are giving away for freeâŚ
Now we have outrage over early access to a campaign they are letting any Game Pass subscriber play at no additional costâŚ
From my point of view (sorry Microsoft) Iâm not paying anything. I donât care about cosmetics and I can live with waiting to play the campaign until release day (and I donât get the âitâs impossible to avoid spoilersâ shtick, itâs entirely possible).
But I donât begrudge 343i attempts to make money off this effort.
This is more on Microsoft than 343i tbh.
Well, swap â343iâ for âMSâ then.
I canât think of a game of this scope and budget being quite so generous.
The MP is free for anyone. The Campaign is included in Game Pass. They are even giving MP perks away to Game Pass subs.
I think itâs understandable that they are looking for ways to get a bit more income off the thing.
Itâs not like Nintendo paywalling fast travel behind an amiibo. Itâs cosmetics, early access. You can pay nothing (as I intend to) and get the same gameplay experience. But the choice is there if you want it.
Whatâs the big deal?
Believe me I donât think Nintendo is any better, and they get away with that stuff easily. But Xbox fans have shown their voices are heard IF they demand better enough.

Itâs not âcleanâ and targets the gullible with uncontrollable spending habits. This should not be ignored by Microsoft who should prioritize these matters that can blend into social issues as well.

For the type of game that is Halo, on both its Story AND competitive multiplayer pillars, it affects the playerbase.
Thatâs just my opinion. I think there could better better ways to monetize instead of this.
Wait where is it said that gamepass subscribers are having early access?
I meant Game Pass subs are getting the campaign at no additional cost, not that they are getting early access.
How?
Iâm interested to know what people would be OK with.
To me, what they seem to have selected â armour/weapon customisation, early access â are the least egregious things you could pick. Neither affects the core gameplay experience. They arenât paywalling content or core features.
You say it targets the gullible? Not really. Itâs just an option for those that see value in such things. Personally speaking, I donât care what colour my spartan is, and itâs not a big deal if someone else gets the campaign a few days before me. If I cared about those things, Iâd pay for them and feel no guilt. Itâs my money, I can do what I want with it.
I 100% agree about gamers demanding better when what they are offered is bad, I just donât see how this actually is bad.
What would be a better way for MS to make money off the game? I canât think of less consequential things.
