Halo |OT| Master Chief's Breath of the Wild Moment (Part 1)

You are correct in every way.

I stopped viewing Reddits for games because somehow, after reading just a couple of posts, I would end up hating games I liked, and I was like, wait a minute, I should decide if I like a game or not, not these schmucks on Reddit.

I can relate as you could see from my first comment. I think I will have to follow suit and unfollow r/halo m.

Shame because sometimes you get some good posts from fans but so much hate and so much 343 bashing its crazy

Yep

Could be…but then I disagree with Brad’s use of language. A management change impacts the game. Semantics I guess. He may see it different.

Could Infinite be in worse shape then we have been told for this to happen? Dont get me wrong the gameplay reveal was not ground breaking but I would not say its trash.

Idk klobrille said like last week pretty much that 343i is in the polish stage of development

I never know to believe him or not, he kinda seems like a Xbox yes man but you never know I suppose

I’m trying not to jump to conclusions without full info. Internets tend to over-react and grab onto theories from the best story tellers on Twitter. Honestly I could see it be either way. Rocky game development isn’t anything new. We got a respected developer like Rocksteady taking 7 years after reportedly rebooting their current project as they tried to go in a new direction. Hearing Halo having challenges doesn’t freak me out. Pandemic, new engine and new direction is challenging when you don’t have to transition generations in the middle of a pandemic. It could be a slightly delayed mid 2021 release and it’s fine or it could be something bigger than that. We’re all just taking our best guess until there’s real info.

Fair points and I agree. Maybe Im being a little too doom and gloom about this, I guess Im just concerned because I really do not want Halo to fall even further off the map (to the mainstream)

Going to distant myself from Twitter & Reddit when it comes to Halo atm. Appreciate you sharing your opinion

I think it’s fair that Halo fans are more cautious than optimistic. Maybe it’s age but I’ve finally learned to wait for all the info before swinging my emotions too wildly in one direction or another. I still liked what I saw from a gameplay standpoint in July and most of the blow-back was from the graphics. So it’s hard to imagine 343 went from thinking they were going to release it this year to a massive overhaul last second. We’ll probably have a good idea soon.

Got to love how people jump on any tiny piece of news about halo and assume it’s negative. The last two management changes we heard were both positive. Whatever stage of development the game is at, it is pretty safe to assume that certain parts of the game are complete. It is a pretty common thing for people to leave a studio after their work on a game is complete especially after a multi year project like this. 343 have to be planning to move on to the post release phase of development which will involve changes to the structure of the teams.

As for the coating stuff, the hyperbolic hatred is ridiculous. I’ve played halo since the original release on the original Xbox and I’ve dabbled in the colour stuff but never found it to be exciting. I’m not an artist. I would much rather have a selection of bespoke designs to choose from than have to make one myself.

The halo multiplayer will be free to play. If this is the way the game is monetised it’s ok with me. The joy of halo has always been with the way the game plays not the customisation.

I see absolutely nothing in any of this news that says the game is in bad shape.

The thing that’s messed up here is the marketing. Microsoft signed all these merchandising deals before the game was complete and covid and the usual development problems that many games suffer, have meant that 343 has been forced to show off these coatings before the context was ready to be revealed.

I remain fully confident that the final game will be great. Even if all they manage to do is fix the pop in, I will have a great deal of fun playing the final game. As for the multiplayer halo 5 was the best playing game in the series. I see no reason why this will be any different.

Yea definitely

Brad should just wait till he’s ready to spill specifics before making tweets like those.

I have to disagree here mainly because this particular issue really has no redeeming aspects and that this is hard to mess up and they did.

We’re at a stage where many, many modern games get the skinning system done right in their own ways. They do it in ways that allow for user creativity, freedom, and in a manner that allows for many permutations and combinations of skins. And lastly they are done in a manner that is monetized and yet not frowned upon by the public. (Though I truly despise the loot box system in Overwatch)

From my perspective, 343 went about this in probably one of the worst ways possible. And yes I realize that we don’t know everything about this, and one could argue that we don’t even know the half of it. But the little we know sounds ridiculous.

There are many obvious solutions that could have also been quite lucrative for 343 and Microsoft. This was one manner in which Microsoft could have made money hand over fist and they threw it all away and I don’t get it. Fortnite makes around $1.5 million a day, mostly from skins, and so I was thinking Microsoft had a home run here.

I get that Infinite gets a lot of unwarranted hate. The nitpicking on some of the visuals was borderline idiotic (for example pointing to the cloud sprite pop-in as if it was some big issue, it’s not). You are absolutely right about people s******* on the game, sometimes for nefarious reasons. I disagree with some of 343’s decisions in the past and frankly I’ve not vocalized it a ton and have simply decided to not play the games because of it, sticking with Halo 1-3/Reach. There are definitely people who just want to rag on it just because. I disagreed with not including split screen in Halo 5, I voiced it once or twice and decided not to buy the game. Simple as that. I love the series but there’s not much I can do about it by ranting about it online (and I’m afraid this might be turning into a rant! LOL).

Ultimately I’ll be playing Halo Infinite and giving it a fair shot but all the while thinking that it’s a shame as I play with my default character online, on what could have been and also how Microsoft really could have had a healthy income from it. So for me it’s disappointing as a player, but as someone who wants to see Halo be a strong and profitable IP, I’m simply puzzled.

I’m 20 minutes into the new podcast while I’m working here so I’ll see what the hosts think about it.

I just want to reiterate that this should have been a home run. The solutions were obvious. I put maybe $80 into Fortnite skins over 3 years and would have gladly put that much each year for Halo (provided it plays well). I play all of these other games and I just wish that Halo was as popular as them, played as well as them, and offered as much as them. I can, at the end of the day, stick with a default skin and enjoy the gameplay just fine. It’s just a frustrating shame. I’m not saying all this stuff to s*** on the game.

If I post about this particular skin topic again, it’ll be with a proposed solution, rather than to continue on whining.

I couldn’t agree more, and the sad thing is - despite some bad actors claiming otherwise - it’s been like this since at least Halo 3. Every time a new Halo comes out or is on the way it’s nitpicked ad nauseam by the impossible-to-please portion of the Halo community, and since 343i took over it’s been amplified. Can’t help but think it’s partly because of the amount of women in charge at 343i. No I’m not pulling that out of nowhere, just look at 343i’s employee profiles they post on Twitter, and the amount of ā€œHalo fansā€ that throw vitriol is exponentially higher when that profile is a woman. It’s pretty pathetic honestly and it’s why I don’t often discuss Halo online, which is sad because it’s still my favorite franchise.

Does colour even matter when everyone is mostly going to be playing Red vs Blue?

The negativity and moaning about the coatings replacing the normal two color option of past Halo’s is a little out of hand. HOWEVER, 343 has a storied history of changing thinks for the sake of change without any logical reasoning other than wanting it to change.

343 has gotten a lot right with Infinite I hope they don’t screw up the marginal stuff.
