Halo |OT| Master Chief's Breath of the Wild Moment (Part 1)

Ya I personally thought halo 5 looked good graphically. Especially considering it was 60fps. 343 are talented.

I also rewatched the 8 minutes gameplay trailer for infinite on my 4K tv. I’m less disappointed than I was when I originally watched it. If they add raytracing and fix the pop in I would be completely fine with it. Really hoping the games out in February or March.

Yea the graphics just weren’t polished thats pretty much all it was

Yep I recently replayed Halo 4 again. Replayed every Halo in succession to finally beat all on Legendary. Playing them back to back to back revealed 1) how stunning Halo 4 was visually for a last gen game 2) how I don’t need Halo Infinite to be stunning if it comes at the expense of sandbox. Even after just completing all the Halo’s, I feel like I can immediately go back to the Bungie original trilogy immediately. Have no desire to ever play Halo 4 again. Not a bad game just not in that repayable tier…IMO.

What makes the original trilogy stand the test of time IMO is:

  1. Sandbox
  2. Music
  3. Art
  4. Lore

You can have all 4 of those without the most technically amazing game. A technically incredible looking game could come at the cost of sandbox. I understand there’s a bar they want to leap over and there’s a balance but IMO longtime, hardcore Halo fans will forgive average graphics over average game design.

Yep exactly. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Infinite seems to have a big focus on sandbox

That’s why I’m really excited about Infinite. Despite all the negativity regarding the graphics from July, I’m very excited about the potential of the game. I believe 343 understands the importance of the sandbox and nuances of Halo better now than they have in the past. At least based on what I’ve read from Frankie and others. There’s a lot of potential for the Halo sandbox in a wide world. If you look around what they showed and imagine some of the gameplay scenarios they could cook up, it gets exciting.

2/3/4 are all in halo 4

LOL! Visually 4 is still stunning. It holds up well current gen. Especially in 4K. Music is fine. Not Marty levels of greatness but it was fine. Story was hit and miss with me due to the amount of stuff that’s not explained in the games.

In contrast I like that for Infinite 1) they’re prioritizing sandbox 2) going with a more personal story that doesn’t require book knowledge and 3) Gareth Coker is doing some of the music. Ori WOTW had my favorite soundtrack of the generation. Also prefer the cleaner, simpler visuals but I didn’t have an issue with 343’s art either. Really feel like everything is coming together for Infinite.

Yea it does

I agree that Halo 4 holds up incredibly well… in fact it’s my favorite Halo game. I know that might seem blasphemous, but I was the guy that read every Halo book that came out so when 4 began interweaving all of those elements better than Bungie ever did (which ranged from some to none at all), I was incredibly grateful. I can understand that fans who don’t read the books may have been lost, but I thought it was a long-awaited reward to see some of the Forerunner lore truly injected into the games for the first time. I also loved the music, as it signified 343 doing their own thing and not repeating the same three base progressions and themes that have followed the series largely unchanged (I also loved Reach and ODST’s soundtrack more than 3, so take that for how you will). ‘Requiem’ is the perfect encapsulation for my love of the soundtrack that describes so much of the new elements: it’s alien, builds a sense of awe, and hits the Sci-Fi elements in its instrumentation that I feel is often missing from much of the Halo soundtracks. ‘117’ also is that perfect blend of new and classic Halo that is moving and powerful, and is played at such a great time when you see Chief still exuding strength whilst suffering incalculable loss.

I’m excited for Infinite because I haven’t been disappointed with 343 yet, and I’m the guy that watched the original MacWorld Halo reveal (also a Mac guy… sorry). I know that’s blasphemy for some in the Halo community, but I’m just as much of a Halo fanatic, but I prefer a series that can still retain a large/majority of its identity while adapting to the times. Besides, I’ve been in the community after every launch, and every single time the vocal minority scream about how the last Halo game before the current was better (now it’s switched to Bungie’s Halo’s being better of course). As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to catalog those opinions but ignore them, and they don’t sway my own whatsoever.

As to your excitement for Gareth Coker being brought in, I wholeheartedly agree; Ori’s soundtracks are some of the best I’ve ever heard, and the early tracks for Infinite indicate that he’s not just a flash in the pan.

Heh!

I bet they’ll announce the new release date or window on the Series X/S launch day.

I think they will only do it if the game is scheduled to come out in January. I think they will only announce the new release date when Microsoft is certain the game will make the new release date.

I’ve finally finished my first playthrough of the Halo series. Every campaign in the MCC and Halo 5. I liked them! Now who the hell was that angry guy in the Halo Infinite trailer?

We can chat books here, right? I just bought the Kilo-Five trilogy as part of the buy 2, get 1 free promotion on Amazon.

So, does anyone know if any of the other books should be read prior to Shadows of Reach or is it fairly standalone?
