Game Pass tiers and pricing changes announced for September

Hahaha, you never cease to amaze with the goalpost shifting.

They are, on console.

Shitty but expected. Value of gamepass is still great for my self.

For others ? We’ll see. COD will have to do alot of heavy lifting now that the hardware is dying a slow death.

I certainly am.

Reading through the changes I think it kinda makes sense. To a degree at least. You are about to drop a COD back catalog but the console tier doesn’t have multiplayer. Now it does but it loses day 1. Not necessarily a fair exchange, but makes a bit of sense.

Now is a great time to stock up if you want to avoid the increase for a few years. It’s nice at least that Microsoft lets you pre purchase months and not just dollar value like some services do.

This sucks, but it’s not surprising. Everyone has a threshold they’re unwilling to cross and GPU is approaching that for me. Actually, most sub services have already passed it for me, which is a shame.

70%-80% of GP users are using the Ultimate tier, this doesn’t change the fact that it’s a ā€œfuck youā€ to console users with the removal of Day 1 releases to every mode except the 20$ one.

Also, imagine there’s now a 50% increase to every day 1 GP tier, with GP for PC raising to 18$ and GPU (the only available on consoles) raising to 30$, do you think this wouldn’t be another fuck you to consoles since the percentage raised is the same?

Yep, i renewed my GP a few months ago until 2026 so i won’t be impacted by this for a long time :stuck_out_tongue: , i guess this won’t be the last price hike before my subscription ends lol

You’re grandfathered in on GP for Console if you’re subbed now/before it’s shuttered. It can’t be done by new subs but you can keep it if you have it.

Ouch! I’ll keep paying for Ultimate though lol

Hope they bring Activision games soon to counter the bad news

If I’d be paying the whole amount by myself I wouldn’t be too happy now. Fact is that I always split the costs with my sharing buddy, so it really isn’t too bad. As long as that isn’t taken away I’m OK.

Our GPU runs until next year if I’m not mistaken, so we have some time left. Does the merge ā€œtrickā€ still work?

Plus for branding there won’t be any point in Gamepass Console when they will no longer be making consoles! Kind of joking but kind of serious, Idk. Gamepass Standard is still a good deal with the now included multiplayer. I’m a GPU sub, and with the new releases, plus COD yearly, I’ll be happily sticking with it.

Also mid September with the changes makes sense for the Activision backcompat releasing on the service.

ultimate is still 35.000 rewards points for 3 months. lets see how this will change.

I’m hoping this increase is meant to last longer than a year, but then again, currency devaluation is always in vogue,

I’m currently stacked through June 2025. I’ll probably pile on a few more three month codes before September.

Yeah I’m out. Same thing I did with Netflix.

At this point I don’t have enough time to churn through games fast enough to make it worth it vs just buying the shit I want especially on sale.

THAT being said. I wonder how long it’ll take for ā€œday 1ā€ releases to hit standard tier. In many ways I could always just standard tier sub if I’m behind churning through my backlog anyways.

I’m sooo fucking over having to sub to a billion things tho. We as a family have been slowly dropping shit over the last year.

I cancelled all the streaming services years ago. Other than Shudder.

I just buy whatever movies I like that are on sale on Apple TV every week (a lot of movies for $4.99 refreshed every week). I can buy around 30 movies a month for what I was paying monthly for streaming.

I’m not near that point with gamepass but it’s close. I’ve definitely hit that point with my other subscriptions.

All I got is YouTube Premium at this point.

Had Disney +, Netflix and Spotify at the beginning of the year lol.

The new price of Ultimate is still below my limit thankfully.

Online Tax + First Party day one games (that I want to play). That’s what I’m paying for, rest is a bonus. As long as it’s cheaper to sub to Ultimate than buying those things separately per year, it’s ok.

But yes, it’s getting closer indeed.
