Where’s that Shaq’s quote meme when I need it.

Very late to the party, and if someone’s already done this please correct me (had to drive 3 hour roundtrip to work today), but I’m sure we’ll still see complaints about Xbox “not doing enough in Japan”.
Regardless of any of that nonsense, nothing but good news out if this event - I’ve spent a good amount of time on the original FFXIV back in the day on PC and a fair amount of Realm Reborn on PS4, so I’m more excited about the future expansion of the relationship personally.
Phil did exactly what he said he would, that simple.
I sure remember too, always do ![]()

If you want to witness how the event unfold.
No interest in FF XIV itself but I wonder how much Microsoft paid Square Enix to finally convince them to support Xbox. We all know Square Enix loves paydays. Great move by Phil as usual and must admit, I didn’t see this coming whatsoever. I wonder what other games will get ported to Xbox. Octopath Traveler 2 should be a given.
I normally don’t like these types of posts but it made me laugh (you need volume):

IDK. SE is coming off the failure of Avengers, Guardians of The Galaxy. Tomb Raider is gone. Final Fantasy is arguably no longer a big deal.
If I were Phil i’d do a game pass deal. Everything they got (MS will pay for the ports) and game pass rights to FF16 and 7-2 (which comes with 7 -1)
Oh damn, visually this looks very good. Way better than I expected. Seems like it has improved throughout the years. I was expecting really dated looks.

At least with 14 specifically, the main thing preventing it from coming sooner was the fact that the dev team has just been so constantly busy that they havent had the availability to allocate resources and time to an xbox port. Now that they are mostly done with endwalker patch content, and have made good headway on their graphical overhaul, its much easier for them to set aside the people for this and get the xbox version out and up to speed so they can unify work on it with work on Dawntrail.
Hardcore PlayStation fanboys love to push narratives like “No gaming exec is actually your friend” or “Phil Spencer comes off as super fake”, because they know the guy in charge of their brand is an incredibly unlikable, bland business type with seemingly no love for the product his company actually releases, who is leading SIE into a GaaS powered death march that they all have to reassuringly tell each other is a good idea, but also that plenty of single player games are still coming too, and also everything’s fine.
Xbox has plenty of momentum lately, and looks to have a bright future ahead, and Phil Spencer is a massive reason why. FF XIV on Xbox is something Phil has been talking about for YEARS, and he worked to deliver it.
Is this a free to play game or does it require a subscription?
There is an extensive free trial that covers the base game and the first two expansions, but if you want to play shadowbringers/endwalker/dawntrail you will have to buy the game and pay a monthly subscription
ok, ok. if you insist so much i will play FF14 next year ![]()
this!
i have not a lot of interest in FF7 remake or FF16 but would play Octopath Traveler 2.
He always does. And that drives folks crazy. Its a bit mental.
I played the game when it first came out on PS4. It’s a very good MMO but was light on content when it first came out, which has since been fixed. My only complaint was I’m not really a subscription for one game sort of person. Would definitely recommend people give the free trial a shot and see how they like it but I would recommend playing as a healer or tank unless you want to wait in queues for ages as a lot of people prefer to play as DPS players.
going to be a lot of SE ports announced at MS’s TGS show with maybe some coming to Gamepass.
It’s possible that this is just the new CEO making better decisions than the old one
I’m sure money/deals are involved but new leadership can change things a lot
I am very excited for this. I’ve been playing this game since it’s day one PS3 launch. I really dislike the dualsense controller so I definitely will be making the move to XSX with this game.
It was predictable but the obnoxious levels of gate keeping I see about SE titles once this announcement was made is sad to see.
Yes, it’s this coupled with what people are pointing out about the growth of other 3rd party Japanese developers relative to Square-Enix that are making me think that this is more than just palaver. There’s something to be said about once bitten twice shy, but these changes in circumstance indicate that this might be more than hot air.
