Elden Ring |OT| Rise Tarnished & Become The Elden Lord (of the dance!)

Embargo is up in 3 hours ?

Yep, and one thing is for certain, if this gets rated 88 or below people will riot, petitions will be signed and lawsuits will go down. Trust me, the internet will melt if this gets scored lower than HFW.

This game could be either

88 and lower- more of the same without the open world adding much to it.

Or

92 and higher - Death of the wild - Dark Souls Breath of the wild moment and the next evolution of open world games

Is speed being based on class, or is it weight like Dark Souls?

If it’s higher, it would be funny to think ā€œBoTW is not even here to steal the glory from Horizon yet it’s done by Dark Souls! Some luck!ā€ But really who knows what happens here.

Why???!!! Oh wait right.

Why ? Dont they love from games there ?

I’m expecting in the 90’s. And am curious if that will spark more rage from the PS peeps who couldn’t accept an 89 for Forbiden West

If only it were that simple…Dark Souls is a masterpiece and it has a 89% on metacritic so yeah scores don’t tell the whole story. We’ll know how good, innovative or safe the game is when we’ll play it, that’s the only thing that matters in the end.

I don’t follow critic aggregate sites very closely but assuming that it gets several perfect 10’s; wouldn’t it the be strange for it to not be in the 90’s? Honestly I’m expecting IGN 10/10, Gamespot 10/10, Game Informer 10/10. Considering that, I would find it very strange for it to get something like an 88 average like some are predicting.

Oh boy, I honestly have no idea.

There’s always outliers who will go way off the beaten path and give a game like that is mostly highly scored something like a 6, or 7

Similar to what heppened with Forbiden West. Were a few low scores dropped it under 90. The thing is that happens all the time. Very rare that a game doesn’t get a few scores like that that hold it under 90

So the complaints of intentional review bombing for that are pretty stupid, because it’s not like that exact situation didn’t factor in to a game scoring in the high 80’s that has released lately. It’s pretty much a given at this point and why getting in to the 90’s despite that is such a rare achievement

Yeah sure, metascores are a weird thing. The number almost never hits it for each individual because everyone has a different taste. But I still feel that the overall sentiment is more often than not right. In other words, a game with an 86+ score will likely satisfy more people than say a 70ish rated game.

If a game is a 90,91 or 92 doesn’t really matter other than for stupid console war reasons. The discussion about HFW showed this clearly and exposed a lot of fanboys.

For me a 85 meta is the absolut standard triple A score (Assassins Creed usually falls here, good games that will likely be a fun game for most but nothing groundbreaking) Anything below that will have obvious shortcomings that could hamper the fun for people if the critiqued aspect is important to them.

86-89 are very good games that most likely will satisfy anyone playing these with only the most negative people finding faults

90+ groundbraking games that almost do everything right and that are unanimously liked by everyone.

There are more than enough examples that prove the opposite though and that was my point, a game having a 90% metascore doesn’t automatically make it a groundbreaking game or a game in the 80% range can still be more than a great game and can be easily recognized as a masterpiece or proven to be more influential in the long run than a game in the 90% range.

As you said there are various factors at play here like personal preferences, taste, dislikes and what everyone wants and appreciates in videogames will vary a lot. And that’s why trying to associate a game’s importance or quality with a number is flawed.

Horizon Forbidden West IGN 9/10 Gamespot 8/10 Game Informer 9.3

My prediction for Elden Ring IGN 10/10 Gamespot 10/10 Game Informer 10/10

I think you and I are talking about two different types of games. Elden Ring is going to score higher with the big outlets. Forbidden West doesn’t appear to have done that. I think what your saying about the smaller outlets could be true though. I’ve watched several previews of Elden Ring and at this point I would be surprised if the three outlets I named don’t give this game a 10. They all speak very highly of Elden Ring.

I forget which class it is, but there is one that is like a jack of all trades beginner character, that is probably the one I will pick.
