Koch Primetime Gaming Stream
What to expect?

Koch Media is one of the many companies under the Embracer Group’s umbrella. With many subsidiaries of its own, including publishing labels Deep Silver and Ravenscourt, the German-Austrian company is responsible for some of the most famous AA franchises out there.

Founded in 1994 and acquired by Embracer Group back in 2018, the Koch Media group owns seven game development studios: Deep Silver Dambuster Studios (Nottingham / UK), Deep Silver Fishlabs (Hamburg / Germany), Deep Silver Volition (Champaign, IL / USA), Flying Wild Hog (Warsaw / Poland), Milestone (Milan / Italy), Vertigo Games (Rotterdam / Netherlands), Voxler (Paris / France), and Warhorse Studios (Prague / Czech Republic). Additionally, Koch Media collaborates with numerous independent development studios around the world.

With so many studios under its umbrella, what can we expect from the Koch Primetime Gaming Stream?

Deep Silver Dambuster Studios

image

  • Based in: Nottingham, UK
  • Founded in: 2014
  • Number of employees: 140+
  • Games developed:
    • Homefront: The Revolution (2016)

Dambuster Studios has taken over the development of Dead Island 2 from Sumo Digital in 2019.

Dead Island 2 was first announced during E3 2014 and has been through development hell since then, switching developers two times already. It was expected to be released during Embracer Group’s 2020 fiscal year, but yet again we were left in the dark about the game’s current state.

Recently we learned from Epic v Apple court case documents that Deep Silver has a deal set to release Dead Island 2 exclusively on the Epic Games Store, which once again gave the fans hope that the game would soon be re-revealed. Can we finally get news from the game during this year’s showcase?

Deep Silver Fishlabs

image

  • Based in: Hamburg, Germany
  • Founded in: 2004
  • Number of employees: 70+
  • Games developed:
    • Saints Row: The Third and IV: Re-Elected Switch ports (2019/2020)

Fishlabs announced it has been working on Chorus during May 2020’s Inside Xbox.

Chorus is marketed as an immersive single-player space combat shooter where you take control of Nara, an ace pilot with a haunted past, and Forsaken, her sentient starfighter, as they embark on a personal, redemptive journey to challenge a relentless foe and take down the dark cult that made her.

Chorus is expected to be released this year.

Deep Silver Volition

image

  • Based in: Illinois, US
  • Founded in: 1993
  • Number of employees: 230+
  • Games developed:
    • Red Faction series (2001 - 2011)
    • Saints Row series (2006 - )
    • Agents of Mayhem (2017)

Volition has yet to officially announce the game it has been working on since the release of Agents of Mayhem in 2017, but we did hear directly from the publisher’s mouth in 2019 that a new Saints Row game was “deep in development”.

Two years has gone by and the untitled Saints Row game is yet to be announced, and what time is more perfect than during E3 season?

Flying Wild Hog

image

  • Based in: Warsaw, Poland
  • Founded in: 2009
  • Number of employees: 200+
  • Games developed:
    • Shadow Warrior reboot series (2013 - )

We know that Flying Wild Hog is currently working on two games that are expected to release this year.

Evil West was announced during 2020’s The Game Awards. You play as one of the last… agents in a top-secret vampire-hunting institute in a narrative-driven campaign that can be played both solo or co-op with a friend.

Shadow Warrior 3, on the other hand, is the third game on the reboot of the well-known first-person shooter series. We’ve already seen many gameplay videos from the game, and it may be releasing really soon.

It’s worth noting that while Flying Wild Hog is now part of Koch Media, Evil West is being published by Focus Home Interactive and Shadow Warrio 3 is being published by Devolver Digital due to previous publishing deals.

Milestone

image

  • Based in: Milan, Italy
  • Founded in: 1994
  • Number of employees: 200+
  • Games developed:
    • MotoGP series (2007 -)
    • WRC series (2010 - 2013)
    • MXGP: The Official Motocross Videogame (2014 - )
    • Ride series (2015 - )
    • Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame (2018 - )

Milestone is responsible for many of the racing games currently available on Xbox. Since 2020 the studio has released Monster Energy Supercross 3 and 4, MotoGP 20 and 21, Ride 4 and MXGP 2020.

We also know that Milestone is currently working on Hot Wheels: Unleashed, slated to be released on September 30, 2021 for both curent and last generation of consoles. All the marketing is currently focused on this first Hot Wheels licensed game from the studio, so it is unlikely that we hear about any new games from its annual franchises.

Vertigo Games

image

  • Based in: Rotterdam, Netherlands
  • Founded in: 2008
  • Number of employees: 40+
  • Games developed:
    • Arizona Sunshine (2016)
    • Skyworld series (2017 - )

Vertigo Games is a studio focused solely on VR games so it doesn’t matter much for us Xbox enthusiasts. Nonetheless, we do know the studio is working on After The Fall, expected to be released later this year. We also know that the studio signed a deal with Innerspace VR earlier this month to publish the next game from the developers of A Fisherman’s Tale.

Voxler

image

  • Based in: Paris, France
  • Founded in: 2005
  • Number of employees: 10+
  • Games developed:
    • Let’s Sing series (2015 - )

Voxer focuses solely on musical games, being responsible for the Let’s Sing series. Their last game was Let’s Sing 2021, released in November 2020 – but their site and social accounts aren’t updated since 2017, so it’s hard to know if we can actually expect a new game from the series this year.

Warhorse Studios

image

  • Based in: Prague, Czech Republic
  • Founded in: 2011
  • Number of employees: 130+
  • Games developed:
    • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (2018)

Warhorse Studios’ only game developed to date was 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which has done well enough to wake Koch Media’s interest, that bought the studio the next year. The studio is currently working on an unknown new project, which has supposedly started development after the fourth and final DLC piece for their first game, released in May 2019. It is rumoured to be a sequel to Deliverance being developed on a modified version of the CryEngine.

How exciting, can’t wait to see what they’ve all been up to.

Not sure if I could be bother getting up at 5am for Ubisoft Forward, last year’s was pretty average.

There’ll obviously be more on Far Cry 6. What else are they gonna show? Kinda interested in The Division Heartlands. Who we gotta pay off to get a splinter cell game?

I want Larian to announce Baldur’s Gate III for console, at least on Game Preview, please?

And of course, I can only feel pain when I’m reminded of stuff like

Ubisoft Forward
What to expect?

Ubisoft is one of the biggest gaming companies out there. With over 19,000 employees working on more than 40 development studios across five continents, it was responsible for most of the new generation’s launch window line-up with the releases of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Just Dance 2021, as well as optimization patches for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and For Honor.

With so many beloved franchises, what can we expect from Ubisoft Forward?

Ivory Tower

image

  • Based in: Lyon, France
  • Founded in: 2007
  • Number of employees: 200+
  • Games developed:
    • The Crew series (2014 - )
  • Working on:
    • The Crew 2 post-launch support (2021)

Since its establishment, Ivory Tower has only ever worked on The Crew series. The original game was released in 2014, while the sequel was released in 2017 and is surprisingly still receiving post-launch support. Season 2 Episode 2 debuted last month, and unfortunately we don’t expect anything from the studio during June’s event – maybe a next-gen version for The Crew 2, if we are feeling hopeful.

Massive Entertainment

image

  • Based in: Malmö, Sweden
  • Founded in: 1997
  • Number of employees: 650+
  • Games developed:
    • Tom Clancy’s The Division series (2016 - )
  • Working on:
    • Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 post-launch support (2021)
    • Untitled Avatar game (2022/23)
    • Untitled Star Wars game (TBA)

Massive Entertainment is the studio we should all watch closely. They worked solely on Windows games when they were unther Vivendi’s management, but it all changed in 2008 when they were sold to Ubisoft. After supporting Ubisoft Montreal with Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Far Cry 3, Massive made its console debut with a bang by releasing The Division in 2016.

Due to the succes of the franchise, which has recently reached an incredible milestone of 40 million players, Massive is still supporting The Division 2. A new major update is scheduled to be released late 2021 at the earliest, including a new game mode that is entirely new to the series and new ways to progress agents with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability.

But what we all want from Massive is news for their two upcoming games based on two insanely popular IPs: Avatar and Star Wars.

We know absolutely nothing about the Star Wars game apart from reports that it will use Massive’s own Snowdrop Engine, which is also used on The Division games. The game was revealed last January and is still very, very early in production, so we don’t expect to hear anything from it for a long while.

The untitled Avatar game, on the other hand, was announced back in 2017, years before The Division 2 even existed. Nothing else is known about the game apart from a tentative release during 2022 fiscal year (which ends in March 2023). Just a reminder: the movie Avatar 2 is currently scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022.

Red Storm Entertainment

image

  • Based in: North Carolina, USA
  • Founded in: 1996
  • Number of employees: 130+
  • Games developed:
    • Tom Clancy’s series (1996 - 2005)
    • America’s Army: True Soldiers (2007)
    • Werewolves Within (2016)
    • Star Trek: Bridge Crew (2017)
  • Working on:
    • Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland (2021/22)

Created by Tom Clancy himself, Red Storm Entertainment has been working on games from the series since it was established in 1996 – as the main developers until 2005, and as a support studio for the last 15 years.

Last month Ubisoft has provided a roadmap detailing the future of The Division franchise, including the announcement of Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland, a free-to-play standalone game set in the same universe as the first two games being developed by Red Storm.

The game is currently on early test phases and some pre-alpha footage has already leaked online, so we expect to hear more from it in June’s event.

Ubisoft Annecy

image

  • Based in: Annecy, France
  • Founded in: 1996
  • Number of employees: 210+
  • Games developed:
    • Steep (2016)
  • Working on:
    • Riders Republic (2021)

Ubisoft Annecy worked for over a decade on ports and multiplayer portions of many Ubisoft franchises like Rayman, Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed – until they finally found their peace on the winter sports game Steep in 2016.

After spending some more time helping Massive Entertainment with The Division 2, Ubisoft Annecy is back to the extreme sports genre with Riders Republic, announced during the September 2020’s Ubisoft Forward event.

The game was first scheduled to be released on February 25, but it was delayed to an undefined date. We expect to see some gameplay and a new release date for the game during June’s event.

Ubisoft Montpellier

image

  • Based in: Castelnau-le-Lez, France
  • Founded in: 1994
  • Number of employees: 350+
  • Games developed:
    • Rayman series (1995 - )
    • Beyond Good & Evil (2003)
    • ZombiU (2012)
    • Valiant Hears: The Great War (2014)
  • Working on:
    • Beyond Good & Evil 2 (TBA)

Ubisoft Montpellier is one of the most traditional studios under Ubisoft’s umbrella. Founded in 1994, it is responsible for classics like Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil. The studio has not released a new console game since 2014’s Valiant Hearts, though.

The team is currently working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, announced during Ubisoft’s 2017 E3. The game has been through a true development hell, and we haven’t gotten any updates from the game since a “Gameplay Update” video back in 2018.

We can only hope to see some news during this month’s event, but I wouldn’t particularly hold my breath.

Ubisoft Montréal

image

  • Based in: Montréal, Canada
  • Founded in: 1997
  • Number of employees: 3,500+
  • Games developed:
    • Prince of Persia series (2003 - 2010)
    • Far Cry series (2005 - )
    • Assassin’s Creed series (2007 - )
    • Watch Dogs series (2014 - 16)
    • For Honor (2017)
    • Hyper Scape (2020)
  • Working on:
    • Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – The Siege of Paris story expansion (2021)
    • For Honor – Year 5 (2021)
    • Roller Champions (2021)
    • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Quarantine (2021)

Ubisoft Montréal is the biggest studio under Ubisoft’s umbrella. With over 3,500 employees and responsible for some of the biggest IPs in the world, the studio has many projects in the works expected to be released this year.

First of all, 2017’s For Honor is still being supported and is currently on its Year 5.

According to some reports, there won’t be a new Assassin’s Creed this year – instead, Ubisoft Montreal will extend support for 2020’s Valhalla. There are some updates scheduled for this year, including a paid story expansion based on The Siege of Paris.

A new team within the studio is also working on the next Rainbow Six game. Originally announced at E3 2019 with Quarantine as a subtitle, the game is expected to be released this year with a different name due to some unfortunate resemblances to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ubisoft Montreal is also working on Roller Champions, a 3v3 free-to-play competitive multiplayer sports game slated for a 2021 release. The game was also announced during E3 2019.

Ubisoft Paris

image

  • Based in: Paris, France
  • Founded in: 2010
  • Number of employees: 340+
  • Games developed:
    • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series (2006 - )
    • Just Dance series (2009 - )
  • Working on:
    • Unknown

Ubisoft Paris is the main developer of both Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Just Dance series.

The studio is still supporting 2019’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. It has recently released Title Update 4.0 introducing AI Teammates, so don’t expect a new title during June’s event. On the other hand, since the game has not received a Year 2 Pass (unlike the previous’ title, Wildlands), it is fair to assume that the team is already working on a sequel.

Regarding Just Dance, very few things are as certain as a new title in the series to be released every year. Ubisoft Paris has released a new Just Dance every year since 2009, and until the 2020 version it was still being released on the Nintendo Wii. A new game is coming, it is just a matter of when will it be announced: the 2020 version was announced in June, while the 2021 version was announced in August.

Ubisoft Pune

image

  • Based in: Pune, India
  • Founded in: 2008
  • Number of employees: 750+
  • Games developed:
    • Additional work on Just Dance games
  • Working on:
    • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake (2021)

Ubisoft Studio is one of the many support studios under Ubisoft’s umbrella trying to prove it is worthy of being the main develpers of new franchises. Originally part of Gameloft, the studio was acquired by Ubisoft and mainly provided support on several Just Dance games, including porting to the Nintendo Switch.

In September 2020, Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Pune was working on its first main title: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Originally slated for a January 21 release, it was met with harsh criticism mainly because of the game’s artstyle. It was later delayed to March 18, and later on it was once again delayed to an unnanounced date.

Ubisoft Québec

image

  • Based in: Quebec City, Canada
  • Founded in: 2005
  • Number of employees: 520+
  • Games developed:
    • Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (2015)
    • Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (2018)
    • Immortals: Fenyx Rising (2020)
  • Working on:
    • Unknown

Ubisoft Québec has released some fantastic games in the last few years. Most recently they presented us with the sleeper hit Immortals: Fenyx Rising. The studio has just finished wrapping up the game’s post-launch support by releasing the third and final DLC in April, so don’t expect to see anything from them in June’s event.

Ubisoft Singapore

image

  • Based in: Fusionopolis, Singapore
  • Founded in: 2008
  • Number of employees: 350+
  • Games developed:
    • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (2009)
  • Working on:
    • Skull & Bones (2022/23)

Ubisoft Singapore is another studio trying to prove its value. Ever since the studio released its first game in 2009, Ubisoft Singapore has been providing additional work for the Assassin’s Creed series for over a decade – until 2017, when Skull & Bones was revealed during that year’s E3.

It was originally scheduled to be released in 2018. It was later delayed to 2019. Then it was delayed to 2020. Last month, Ubisoft confirmed that the game won’t be released until at least the 2022 fiscal year.

It is another game going through development hell that we don’t expect to see at this month’s event.

Ubisoft Toronto

image

  • Based in: Toronto, Canada
  • Founded in: 2010
  • Number of employees: 650+
  • Games developed:
    • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2013)
    • Far Cry 5 (2018)
    • Starlink: Battle for Atlas (2018)
    • Watch Dogs: Legion (2020)
  • Working on:
    • Far Cry 6 (2021)
    • Watch Dogs: Legion – Bloodline story expansion (June/2021)

Since its establishment in 2010 under Jade Raymond’s management, Ubisoft Toronto has quickly become one of the most important studios for Ubisoft – to the point of taking over both Far Cry and Watch Dogs franchises from its Montreal sister.

Ubisoft Toronto is currently working on Far Cry 6, which was announced during July 2020’s Ubisoft Forward event. Originally scheduled for a February 18 release, the game was delayed to an unnanounced date – only to receive a new October 7 release date last month.

The studio is also working on Watch Dogs: Legion’s post-launch support: a new story expansion called Bloodline is expected to drop in June starring previous games’ Aiden Pearce and Wrench. An Assassin’s Creed crossover event is also scheduled for August.

Other Studios

As previously mentioned, Ubisoft has over 60 developments studios, and many of them provide support for the ones listed above. Ubisoft Kyiv, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Leamington, Ubisoft Mumbai, Ubisoft Sofia, Ubisoft Barcelona, Ubisoft Chengdu, Ubisoft Bordeaux, Ubisoft Philippines, Ubisoft Saguenay and Ubisoft Winnipeg are all known to be helping in the development of Ubisoft’s upcoming projects.
