I sometimes wonder how much the Pc dominating thing is skewed due to Asia being a gigantic PC market. Like, I’m actually happy about the Xbox and Windows platforms somewhat merging in the future in terms of gaming but I always wonder what’s the split per country or per continent.
Like in my gaming circles, everyone who has decent income streams are all on PC with the odd ones having a Switch in the living room for party games. The few people I know that own consoles are lower income in general. But that’s just what I see and of course, your mileage may vary!
I think one of the overlooked aspects of the hardware moves is the increased competition for foundry resources. If you consolidate design/chip production with AMD products for Xbox and PC you reduce the amount of unique production required to facilitate a whole bunch of different devices. From that perspective, what they are doing makes even more sense.
I think you’ll be fine, this isn’t about distribution and in the post-COVID era, many corps don’t need to have expensive HQ’s around the world when you do it remotely
I hope this news doesn’t affect Xbox development or R&D staff no amount of AI can replace that
That would be great, because I still have “nightmares” from when I bought a USA PlayStation 2 many, many years ago and it died on me instantly, probably because it needed a different power supply cable or whatever it was. I just want no nonsense, but I DO want whatever Xbox is bringing next because I trust they’ll make something worthwhile.
Looks like, and the rumour going around is that some Xbox EU divisions will be closed down entirely . Though in the remote post-COVID era that’s what a lot of corps will be doing I bet even SONY
Really hoping this is overblown as that is a massive amount of people to let go and I have no idea which one of their studious deserves this as they’ve all been shooting on all fronts and doing great imo.
Not sure why he would have an inkling of exact numbers when he undercut their actual division size by half and none of the reporters have stated anything like this.
He seems to be conflating the “thousands of cuts at Microsoft” reports from a few weeks ago as “thousands of cuts at xbox”
