A bit too fluid, as in character movement. It’s as if the character moonwalks forward or something, it feels off. I tried playing that while I had just finished RDR2. It was just not doable for me, hated how the movement felt.
It just feels clunky to me to a point that feels bad to play, there’s something about it that just doesn’t agree with me and it puts me off instantly.
From the messing around I did in the menus 60fps is on by default, and that doesn’t help it for me at all.
Wow. Did you try decreasing the controller sensitivity? I usually set it to 2 or 3 and it feels even better because while still fluid and responsive, it’s not as much.
I’m surprised that you feel that it’s clunky because while I don’t believe Shadows is clunky or anything like that, it’s just not as fluid as Origins/Odyssey. For example, trying to just walk off/step down from a porch or something a foot or two off the ground in Shadows, Naoe just doesn’t move. It’s like she’s stuck but in Origins/Odyssey, I can just use the left analog stick and that’s it. In Shadows, I have to use the A or B button
Like I said to Staffy, perhaps decrease the controller sensitivity and see if that helps.
I guess it’s just me and @Mort who love Origins and Odyssey!!
I meant it more like how there’s no weight to the character movement. It’s very weighty in RDR2 and I like that, I don’t necessarily need that for AC, but Shadows does feel better in that regard compared to Origins.
I don’t know what it is, Origins just feels weird to me. It’s not about needing to press A or B or not, it’s just something that I can’t explain makes the game feel bad to play.
With Shadows, everything just clicked and feels good to play to me, I was hoping that Origins update had a switch for 30fps to 60fps to see if that would help but it being 60 already means that I likely won’t enjoy my time with it if I were to do a full playthrough. Even if I just did story content only.
Okay, gotcha.
Did you try Odyssey? You should try that one as well. The 60FPS update is automatic. See if it’s the same as Origins or Shadows.
Not yet, as I keep being distracted by new games or forever games(well just ESO really) that I keep coming back to. But seeing as I need to see how the game feels to me, I will play a bit when I get a chance.
Okay, cool. Be sure to post how the game is for you as im curious to know if it becomes like Origins or Shadows for you.
Some thoughts on Shadows after around 25 hours:
More than anything else it just feels so good to play both of these characters. The movement and combat is so much fun-- in two totally different ways! Loot is great, and though I’m waiting until max level to dive into playing with builds, I can tell there are a ton of great affixes and combinations I want to try.
Naoe and Yasuke are both super likable characters. Their outfits look amazing, and it’s just fun to exist in the world as both of them. I do wonder if hair/tattoo customization like Valhalla is something that could come in the future… tons of possibilities!
Storytelling I am mixed on. Overall it feels a lot like Valhalla with episodic stories in each region rather than an overarching linear plot. It makes sense why you would do this in an open world game, and overall it’s handled better than Valhalla where there were SO MANY characters and episodes that even if they were individually memorable, after dozens of hours it just blended together into sludge, but I do kind of wish that they would try a more linear story structure. It just feels like it limits what you can do when everything sort has to stay on a status quo level at all times.
It also took me until probably Act 2 to get into a comfortable groove. The prologue felt very lumpy with all the time skips backwards and forwards, and Act 1 just felt very inconsistent in terms of the writing – some cutscenes seemed to last forever and belabor the same point into tedium, and then there would be other scenes that were so abrupt they felt like they were on fast forward or something. I think the opening hours could have benefited from being more straightforward and concise. At some times it even felt like scenes had been remixed from an earlier version of the game, like the game would present you with a combat tutorial when you’ve already been fighting for hours. Just felt clumsy. But starting in Act 2, both characters unlocked, it feels like the game has settled down or maybe I’m just more comfortable with the gameplay loop and I’m having a smooth time.
Playing through the Odyssey intro and the gameplay feels better to me than Origins so far. It feels like they tighten something about the gameplay that removes that weird feeling I was getting.
The camera still feeks a little strange for me but it should be more mamagable than the feel of the game. My biggest issue so far was the cutscenes being a little jarring in motion, at least the opening fight cutscenes.
Just picked this up and it’s wonderful and looks so bloody gorgeous too, and the environments are brimming with life and movement
This is the best AC I’ve played since Unity
For me the glitch I encountered is enemies laying down, needing to be assassinated multiple times.
The open way to tackle a story doesnt help the game that much. I wish it was more linear tailored and there are some very interesting bits in the story which can be missed.
Been playing this for a while (loving it) but have noticed that after some hours of play my controller becomes unresponsive , most easily noticed as x suddenly becomes unresponsive to a single click for crouch where I started needing to hold to lie down and then click again to crouch and also with blocking attacks.
Run through the controller app when it was happening and all buttons respond fine, a restart of the console seemed to clear it up.
Anyone else seen this happen?
Nope, the only glitches I have run into have been related to button prompts, either not appearing when they should, or remaining on the screen and not going away until I restarted the game.
Odd, it’s getting worse for me, was playing last night and eagle vision just randomly stopped working. Save and restart seems to fix the glitches but it’s quite annoying.
Finished the achievements at level 53. I’ll be coming back each week for the animus missions, leveling to max, and exploring the map. What a game! Probably my favorite Assassin’s Creed outside of the Altair and Ezio games.
Still pretty early in the game messing around, but I just tried the Kusarigama and the heavy attack is a wide blunt attack that shreds through armor. It’s really good!
